Is there a straight forward option to replace the Johan 69 AMX chassis pan. The rear axle is molded in place and the front suspension is only half there.

Maybe someone out there knows where some good chassis reference photos are? Then I can start to upgrade the parts I've got.

Thanks in advance.

I've wondered this myself as I have several 2 seat AMX models, both built and unbuilt. Looks to me the closest thing that would work might be the chassis out of the ERTL '67 Mustang. Dimensionally they are close, but you'd have to do some surgery to shorten up the wheelbase though.

Even the inner fenders are close as the Johan ones are very inaccurate-------the front suspension would work too as the '68-'69's used a lower A arm setup very similar to the Mustang.

As far as full on chassis pics, you can search eBay for some cars on auction. Some folks who really want to show the car inside and out will show practically every nut and bolt! :o I've got some pics, but they're not very good and don't show the chassis in full on view-----just partial pics.

Another idea although it will cost some bucks, is to find either an original, or a reprint of a shop manual. A lot of them show the underside, or have a diagram of how the wires and lines run in a particular car.

HTH!

I almost forgot I had this site bookmarked! There aren't any chassis shots here, but some excellent engine and engine bay photos of a '68 under resto! :)

I sure miss the 1:1 '69 I had many years ago :( ................I would have loved those Trendsetter side pipes that the resto car has!

The Johan Rambler American should be a logical starting point. It isn't the molded promo style chassis. It has separte suspension and rear axle. The wheelbase would need to shortened. I haven't done it or even lined up the parts but it seemed logical to suggest it. :P

I just pulled out my Rambler kit and looked it over. The rear axle and suspension are fine but the front is metal axle style and not too good. It has decent looking front inner fenders and a separate trunk floor. Oh well! It was a thought.

Thanks Andy, after looking over the pics in the suggested web sites, I think I will use the AMT Mustang for the front end.

The American floor pan is a good possible sub for the floor pan area, but it looks a little flat in the detail department. I'll have to find some good pictures of the bottom of one of these babies and go from there. Maybe the mustang is a good compromise.

If I can't find any good pics, nobody else is going to know that it is not an AMX frame either right? ;)

Send me two kits ( of your choice ) and I won't tell.
