I think the made-for-TV-movies "prototypes" were pretty universally bad...witness the "Phoenix" from the second episode of Banacek...

I think that's just the AMX show car--or a Dave Puhl-modified AMX--with some extra cardboard pop-riveted onto it. B)

BTW, I remember that episode of Banacek very well. I solved the case about a half-hour before Banacek did. B)

It was a Barris job, called AMX 400, before they put those horrible bumper and periscope things on it for the TV episode. Top chopped, longer nose and tail...not too bad looking really...well, for later Barris cars anyway. http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/tag/banacek-amx/

Well if I'd seen the pics of it with those goofy-ass fake exhausts on it, I'd have known it was a Barris job. B) Puhl in Chicago was doing some similar things about the same time, though with a little more taste. Come to think of it, so was Starbird. B)
