georgegmacdonald Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 I am interested in building a modern funny car or an Outlaw Fuel Altered. I expect to build up the body but i would like to find a good commercially available or discontinued kit to use as a starting point for the engine and chassis. Which kit(s) should I look for that have the most modern funny car engine and chassis? Thanks!
Daddyfink Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Any of the newer versions, which I believe last came out in the early 2000's would work. They are all basically the same under the bodies.
AZ Boy Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Any Revell "modern" funnycar kit chassis will do. By that, I mean you can choose from the McDonalds Firebird, Randy Anderson Parts America Firebird, Bruce Larson Sentry Olds, etc.. If you're considering building it in 1/16th scale, TRD Innovations makes a modern 3D printed funnycar chassis.
Adhsdad Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 George, what car are you wanting to do? There are plenty of resin bodies out there. You should check out Compresins.com to see the bodies they have on offer. Also, check with Slixx for the decals that match the funny car bodies. Hope this helps. Ep
Force Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 The latest most updated version of the Revell/Monogram Funny Car kits was the kits with the Pontiac Firebird bodies. To do a modern version of those kits you'll need to update a bit more, such as MSD Pro Mag 44 magnetos, set back blower, Waterman fuel pumps, carbon fibre injector hat, dry sump oil system and a few things more. Slixx also sells Comp Resins whole inventory and I belive Comp Resins carries some of Slixx decals, so you can buy everything at one place.
Mooneyzs Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 As Aaron mentioned about the 1/16th scale funny car chassis from TDR.... TDR does have a 1/25th scale Mark Williams funny car/Altered Chassis for 21.00 as well as a 1/24th Scale Mark WIlliams chassis....$22.00. For that scale I would recommend the Frosted Ultra Detail. it is much better than the strong white & flexible material in my opinion. 1/25th Scale link: http://www.shapeways.com/model/2559234/1-25-mark-william-funny-car-or-altered-chassis.html?materialId=60 1/24th Scale Link: http://www.shapeways.com/model/2559235/1-24-mark-william-funny-car-or-altered-chassis.html?materialId=60
mysterj1 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I'd love it if Shapeways had an old-school AA/FA frame (95"-98" inch wheelbase) for sale. I'm really amazed what 3D printing can do...
