Here's a solution!

Mechanical pencil!

Doesn't fit all bits, but it does the .028 bit, which I found is a good GP bit.

Extend however much you like!

Neat idea. Also mechical pencils come in several sizes so you could have a couple of different sizes.

The 0.7 pencils seem to be the most common. Another thing about this is how my pinvise actually had one jaw mashed in so I'd drilled crooked, so in a way it's better.

Besides, I can hook it in my shirt pocket.

i always though with mechanicals like that the slightest bit too much pressure will break the lead, or push the lead back up into the pencil?? i know they always did that on me way back when..... i know when i use my pinvise it requires a good bit of pressure sometimes

I pushed quite hard on it and it didn't force the bit back up. Drills holes like nothing.
