tyrone Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 What's up fellas... I'm building a new and inproved Cheyenne pro street.. I recently finished one of these and I found out after it was almost finished that there were a few things I missed. The main thing was that I should have also shortened the bed behind the rear wheel wells also, and also on the 1:1 trucks the rear lower valance is angled also.. I will be using the r/m 67 Chevelle prostreet chassis and engine again, I an old truck body that I soaked in the purple pond to strip it down,... here's a few pics.. thanks for looking and comments welcome... here's a pic showing the pieces taken out of the rear bed. this pic shows the area that should be removed, I took this off with my dremel tool... here's a few pics with it trimmed down.. I also added some thin strips of styrene to the sides of the hood to fill in the gaps between hood and fenders,... This is a pic of a 1:1 to give you an idea..
Greg Pugh Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Oh yeah! Definitely watching this! Great subject from one of my favorite builders!
RAT-T Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 LOOKS GREAT TYRONE, WOULD YOU KNOW IF THE SAME THING APPLIES FOR THE '73 & UP BEDS?
jeffs396 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Looks GREAT so far Tyrone! Tom, no need to worry on shortening the styrene 73-87 GM full-size pickup beds to 6.5 ft, that's all that's ever been produced in 1/24 & 1/25 scale. Then you have some of us stretching them to 8 ft!
RAT-T Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 HI JEFF, THAT'S WHAT I WANTED TO DO. I'D LIKE TO STRETCH A 6' TO AN 8', BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCHTO GO BEFORE & AFTER THE WHEEL WELL.
Randy D Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Hey Tyrone, That bed is looking right now !!! Can't wait to see more. Randy
tyrone Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Thanks alot for the kind words fellas.... really appreciate it..
tyrone Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Hey Tyrone, That bed is looking right now !!! Can't wait to see more. Randy Thanks Randy... that last one I did, it always bothered me about the things I missed on the bed..
tyrone Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Are you using the entire Chevelle chassis or just the back half? I'm gonna use the whole chassis Roger... everything lines up on it pretty good... that truck chassis with the molded in exhasut is pathetic imop.....
tooltas Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 what not a custom frame for it are u using the same wheels that u did older built
tyrone Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 what not a custom frame for it are u using the same wheels that u did older built Not sure yet Todd.. I may get some made by Micro Nitro...
hjracing Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Nice start. This is one of my prefered Chevy body style of all. I'll keep an eye on this one!
tyrone Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 Won't the perimeter frame and car floor pan look kinda odd under a pickup? I think I would use the front half of the chassis from a '64 or '65 pickup and scratchbuild the rear half or use just the bare frame rails from the Chevelle for the rear half. One thing that needs to be fixed on the cab is the inner fender wells. They're right for the '60-'66. Wrong for the '67-'72. Hmmmm.. I'll have to check I do have a 64/65 Chevy chassis laying around... I'll also see if I have some pics of the inner fender wells..
am73grand Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Tyrone this looks awesome so far. Definitely going to be watching!
Bowtienutz Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 The perimeter frame would not be the way to go, no aftermarket company uses that setup. not even in full custom frames. I recommend using a 64-65 chevy truck frame. it's the closest to stock you might find. It has the original 4 coil spring with a rear trailing arm suspension. You can go any route you like after that. Parallel rear 4 bar with air bags is popular with tubular arms and air bags with a rack up front can drop it on the ground. The front inner fenders as mentioned are wrong from and from pre 67. If you want it to lay frame the front fenders wells are modified close to something that is a wheel tub with no inside. You have to make some floor pans, cab mounts and bed mounts this route but nothing you can't handle There is a great book out there for the 1:1 building a C10 truck it's only about $10 ... lots of great ideas. good luck
Petetrucker07 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 (edited) Cant wait to see this come together. Im sure if its gonna get the same treatment as your camaros and novas, this will be spectacular. Edited November 21, 2014 by Petetrucker07
