jbwelda Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I recently came into a GMP 1/6 scale Offenhauser engine and display stand for a good price (I think it was originally > 250$ and I paid 50). the problem is, it had been dropped and the display case (clear cover) is cracked in numerous places plus the brackets that hold the engine fore and aft are broken or badly bent. there were some other issues like a little scratched paint and a broken fuel line attachment, but those cleaned up pretty nice with a little effort. I went looking for GMP but it appears perhaps they have gone under. Possibly replaced by ACME Trading who I contacted with this request as well. Does anyone know a contact for GMP or is ACME it at this point? anyone have any idea or history of getting replacement parts from them? Or any other ideas about getting the parts? (The brackets are no real problem to make but I would prefer to have the original ones if possible). Thanks for any input! jb
BDSchindler Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 (edited) GMP went under during the great diecast depression of 2012-13 when the Chinese Government took control of many of the factories. If the contracting companies owed money to those factories, the Chinese Government essentially held all of the tooling hostage until the bills were paid. As to how GMP fit into this, I'm not exactly sure but I do know the company was a financial mess when it came to paying for tooling. You are correct, however...Tom's son, Mat Long opened ACME and rebranded many of GMP's products as ACME Diecast. Recently, GMP announced they were coming back and it may be that Mat is planning on running it as well as Acme. either way, give Mat a call. They may not be able to help, however as I think they abandoned the whole engine tooling. http://www.acmediecast.com/ Edited November 24, 2014 by BDSchindler
Exotics_Builder Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 I was told at IHOBBY that Greenlight was going to be bringing back the GMP brand through their distribution. They had GMP products at their booth.

AzTom Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Welcome Brian I understood it as Greenlight was the money behind it.
jbwelda Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 alright guys thanks for the info. I sent an email to Acme but haven't heard anything back. I will probably make a couple of brackets anyhow. jb
