crazyjim Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Can decals be trimmed to fit after they're applied and dried?
Chillyb1 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Yes, but it isn't recommended. I don't know that I have the expertise to make any particular general claim on the subject, but I recently found myself confronting this problem on a commissioned build as well as on one of my own projects. A lot will depend on the decals and where they're placed. I had mixed success. The decals I was using were old and I had used Microscale's Liquid Decal Film on most of them. Others were untreated. Treated decals were easier to trim and stayed in place while others tried to flake or peel rather than let themselves be trimmed.
Snake45 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I've done this on clear parts of decals that were sticking up or wouldn't lay down after application. Can be done with a sharp Xacto, an Optivisor, and a steady hand.
crazyjim Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 Thanks guys I'm contemplating making upholstery pattern decals. They would merely be a 1/4 or 1/2 sheet of the pattern would require trimming before and probably after application.
