Chuck Most Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Who knew part of White Motor Company's engineering regimen was teaching cabovers how to breakdance? On a serious note, these are photographs from a White publicity event from 1949. And this just has to be one of the coolest photographs ever taken...
kilrathy10 Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 (edited) Man, those are some cool shots.....Amazing what they would do to prove their designs......I'm guessing that was a roll over test and the jump a chassis strength test.....Don't think anyone would try to jump a Freightliner Coronado or Cascadia or something, today...... Don't know if they'd been cleaned up or not, but those are some GREAT quality photographs, considering the technology of the time..... Edited December 27, 2014 by kilrathy10
Chuck Most Posted December 27, 2014 Author Posted December 27, 2014 The rollover wasn't planned- that was an accident. But it seemed like all the auto and truck manufacturers put on "thrill shows" like this to demonstrate their products from the late '40's onward.
1930fordpickup Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 I hope the guy doing the jump had an air ride seat.
olsbooks Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) This is really neat. Just to think about how "unbalanced" these things were, not to mention the 50 turns lock to lock of the manual steering, the fact they could do any of these tricks without it always landing on its side or nose is most impressive. Whole different ball game than the Europeans like to do with their newer COE's. And Dukes of Hazzard and Joey Chitwood? Eat your heart out! Thanks for sharing. Peace.
