Scott Lynch Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 As a Mohawk I see the Confederate flag as a symbol of white people fighting over who gets to keep the land that they stole from us. Although true for your ancestors, You should be careful with that statement. I have been paying for it for a long time now, and my generation, and my fathers generation did nothing.
Bill Coulter Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Gregg, Lyle... Man! I was scared I'd somehow slipped the space/time continum and accidently drifted into a telephonic convergence of The History channel meets Outer Limits and The Twilight Zone. Thanks for helping me get back into the present realm. I was really worried that if this is Ground Hog Day we are all in for a rough ride...over and over and over and... BC
JAFFA Posted February 8, 2008 Author Posted February 8, 2008 MODEL CARS! ANYONE REMEMBER MODEL CARS? What, ya think this is some modelcars forum?
Gregg Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Ya Thunk??? It just goes to show you that I will let 99.99995.13159% of the threads/posts here go on their own. I don't want to have the "Heavy Hand", 'Killer Of Posts", "God Of The Moderators" mentality. This forum is about model cars, the people (AND FRIENDS) who build them, their thoughts, ideas, opinions, and nasty words about me and my inability to get the mag out on time...... wait, sorry, that's a slanderous thing, I may be banned......... I have only put the ax down once, and there is a really interesting irony that came because of it. So, go figure (I know, two plus 2 is four, but I refuse to accept that!)..... What? Model Cars? Wat dat? I'm trying to build for NNL West Have a bunch of friends coming in from all over to the MCM room in the host hotel. Yes, A BIG ROOM!!!!! Guido and Dorsche are the bouncers to the floor, sorry, you have to get past them first. Heh, don't blame me, it's what's his name's fault (You talking about yourself again?) Yeah, so what? SHut Up. Go to bed NO!!!! I got work not to do!!!!! W@ho is this guy? I dunno...... Some crazy white guy in Hawai`i who think he stay one kanaka~

BC Is anyone holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read this? I frankly find your post insulting to all of the people who weighed in on this issue, whatever their position. Go back to the other forums!
Darin Bastedo Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Although true for your ancestors, You should be careful with that statement. I have been paying for it for a long time now, and my generation, and my fathers generation did nothing. I'm not trying to start anything, here, and I don't know how old you or your father are, but history books would have you believe that the pesecution of Native americans was only in our distant past and only in the "wild west" But my Grandfather was a child in the 1920's and had to be hidden from the wite authorities since the age of six in fear he would be taken from his "savage parents" and relocated to a government boarding school where he would be "civilised". The schools "civilised" the children by beating them or washing their mouth out with soap if the spoke our native tounge. Discipline was creul and often fatal, as many children taken to these schools were never heard from again. This was in the 1920's. It didn't end then either. You say that you have Paid for this. what burden have you borne, that equals the injustice done to the native american people? I apreciate that you personally had nothing to do with the oppression of my ancestors, but please don't try to make light of the blood that was spilled to pave the way for the settling of what is now called the United States of America. You may not have waged the war but you have inherited the spoils.
Harry P. Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 I've been following this thread from the beginning, and I have a few observations. First of all, I appreciate the fact that we've been allowed to carry on this discussion for as long as we have! Lucky for us, Gregg is a pretty laid-back dude...this thread wouldn't have lasted NEARLY as long on some other forums..so a big thumbs up to Gregg for letting this one go on as long as it has. Second, it's obvious that we have quite a few well-spoken, thoughtful members here. Even though this issue is very emotional, for the most part we've been civil, and many of the posts made here are very well stated, IMO. But it seems to me that this is one of those issues that can be debated forever without ever coming to a real "answer" or agreement. So I suggest we "police ourselves" and agree to end this one. By now I'm sure everyone who has wanted to weigh in on the subject already has done so, so any further debate isn't really going to accomplish much. So what do you say, guys? Back to models?

Bill Coulter Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Andy, you old sweetheart. I didn't know your cared so much. BC
Helipilot16 Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I always have to laugh when I hear people say such things as "It depends on your viewpoint" or "History is open to interpretation". No, history is a collection of facts, not interpretation. It is about what happened, not what we think happened. I have been a history buff since the age of eleven when I used to lay out under the limbs of a big oak tree and read "History of Civilization" by Will Durant. The sort of primary source research done by such brilliant historians as Will and Ariel Durant, Dumont Malone and Shelby Foote created a huge compendium of historical data that is available to anyone who is not too lazy to use it. This laziness leads many in the south to believe the ###### passed around the dinner table. Southern schools picked up on some of this misinformation and it became the accepted slant of their "history" courses. The story of the Civil war is complex, but revolves around one thing above all others; the issue of slavery. Without that issue, the south would not have felt the need to secede. Once that secession took place, Lincoln saw it as his sworn duty to hold the union together. No, he never used the slavery issue as a reason to go to war, but that doesn't mean it wasn't in his mind at all. Denying that the stars and bars is a racist symbol is ignoring the facts; it's that simple. The flag had pretty much disappeared into the dust bins of history until the pro segregation forces revived it all over the south in the 50s. It should be retired to that dust bin.
Gregg Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I think we should put an end to this thread. Everyone has their opinion, most of them have been voiced here, and as I say here, we pau Now, get back to modeling!!!!
