Tesla Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Tom I was wondering...would that have been Anchor Motor Freight that hauled the GM cars?
tbill Posted January 8, 2015 Author Posted January 8, 2015 I think I am going to stick with mostly kit parts, as I want to keep it a Titan. time will tell how it goes I guess I do have a couple 3 Astro's in the stash, so eventually I will PE kit one of those. Dennis, as Jesse mentioned, it was leaseway . I assume that was the company name, as I clearly remember the trucks doors having the GM logo and leaseway painted on the them. going more for the color scheme of those trucks, then doing the Titan as a replica of one. Jesse, my grand dad sold GMC rigs for a lot of years, somewhere around here I have a 'build calculator' he used to use to determine just how to build a truck per customers hauling criteria. I really need to find that and post some pic's of it, it was kinda cool. might actually start the chassis on this this weekend between Camaro parts assembly.......stay tuned........
Mopar - D Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Tom thought I would bring this post back up seeing your making great progress on the Cameros and I know your thing about this baby. You know it would look really nice as a day cab.
tbill Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 with any luck, in a few weeks time i will be knee deep in this build Dan, i gotta confess, i never really liked these as day cabs, they just look funny to me, lol.
tbill Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 well guys, the Camaro part of this project is complete [finally], so look for some actual progress on this in the coming weeks the Camaro's awaiting the trailer to arrive, stay tuned......
Petetrucker07 Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Those look awesome Tom. I'm sure this will be a jaw dropping unit. It would be really cool to see your load Chevys sittin next to Dan load of Mopars.
Mopar - D Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Tom looking forward to see phase 2 progress. This is going to be a very sweet looking rig. Clayton I agree.
tbill Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 thanks guys. so, Dan, you're in Houston, I am in NY, what do you figure the half way point is? maybe a 12 hour drive by each of us for a photo op? lol. or maybe get someone good at photoshop to park them next to one another when I get mine done that sure would look cool.......
tbill Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 Dan, my original plan was a hauler full of 66 chevelle cars/wagons/elcamino's, which I have all the kits to do, plus I have two of the revell kits that have truck/trailer/Camaro/firebird combo. we may eventually need a road trip or a good photo editor, lol.
Mopar - D Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I here yea Tom by the way my son has photoshop and we can use it
tbill Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 ok, it is officially on the bench now no pic's yet, but I have the frame and partial suspension glued together. I kinda forgot how big a pain it is when the parts are not numbered, lol. I do however have a bit of a dilemma........unsure of what color to paint the frame as the body is light blue, and the hauler will be light blue, I want to stay away from doing the frame light blue [would be too much I think], black seems logical, but for some reason I am leaning towards white...........any thoughts on that possible choice? I also plan on doing a white interior, only due to the fact that this is meant to be a 'white glove' type hauler, and to really get people fired up, the engine will be the same color as all the big blocks in the Camaro's, just as a way to tie the whole project together. so that's where I am at this evening, stay tuned for more of 'phase two'............
72 Charger Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Tom I think that your project is FANTASTIC I followed the Camaro's build's? I will keep following along for the rig build too Keep at it You got my gears turning for my own projects . Cab stripes look cool BTW
Petetrucker07 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 The white frame would be different. You don't see very many with a white frame. But if your going for a "work truck" look, that Chevy would've actually used, then black frame. Same goes for the interior, white-custom, black-factory. I know I'm no help, sorry.
tbill Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 lol, kinda going for a custom look, as it would be a rig owned by Baldwin Motion for delivering the cars, so not really a fleet rig.
Mopar - D Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Tom - as you stated this is a "white glove" transporter I would go for the all out custom treatment white frame and interior. Lots of chrome treatment too.
tbill Posted March 14, 2015 Author Posted March 14, 2015 ok, frame is painted in classic white, and engine is painted in orange to match the cars engines. I now have a dilemma....unsure on wheel choice and color. not sure if I should color coordinate the kit wheels to the paint scheme, or just use the moebius wheel/tire kit to give it some bling. kind of have a bit of builders block here, mostly due to the fact the hauler kit has 10 hole wheels, so, kinda want to match it all, but I like the spoke look, but chrome all around would look good too...... any thoughts?
Mackvision Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Tom,i think it would be sharp to run 10 holes on the steer axle only, then color co-ordinate the spokes on the drive axles,a little of the best of both worlds? just an idea, really like your idea for this build too,a very unique truck!...................Mark
Petetrucker07 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 IMO, I say go in style, shiney 10 holes all the way around. It's a load of special edition cars, they should travel in style.Of course I have a little bias here, I'm a Chevy guy, I bleed orange.
Mopar - D Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Tom I'm with Clayton remember your going for the show truck hauler.
fantacmet Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Normally for a car hauler I'd have to say Spokes, but i've noticed around here(we have like 20 dealerships within 5 miles including a Ferrari and Lambo), and the nicer the cars the nicer the rig that hauls them.
tbill Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 still mulling over the wheel choice, but, to prove I am actually working on this, here are some pic's, still working on getting the chrome residue off of some parts, and have a bunch of other parts in either primer or paint. also got the tanks together and primed, they will need some more work before I can paint and alclad them, but I am making progress
Petetrucker07 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Looks good so far man. Keep plugging away. Can't wait to see it all loaded up and ready to go truckin.
Tesla Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 It's looking real nice Tom. This will definitely be a show piece!
