Well that cant be much more of a challenge then drilling all those holes !

Singles have that off road heavy duty tear'em up go anywhere look. That will really make this one jump out.

Excellent work , thanks for the detailed progression pics. B)

Thank you Sean. Gator brought up the single grouser shoe and it will definitely look better than the Bruder track shoes

I completed modifying one set of tracks from triple to single grouser.

The first order of business was to remove the existing grouser bars.

This was accomplished with the help of a belt sander:

After removing as much stock as possible with the sander, I finished with 80 grit by hand. This picture shows the bars removed:

In this picture on the left is a piece of .015” styrene cut to 5/16” X 1-9/16”. this was glued to the top of each shoe to cover any imperfections that sanding did not remove.

On the right is what was used for the single grouser bar. It’s .060” X .100” styrene (Evergreen # 155):

Here’s the completed track:

There’s a lot left to accomplish on this build. I’m waiting on parts to modify the drive sprockets. Once they arrive and are installed, the front and rear idlers will be scratch built along with the track rollers.

So for now, panel lines have to be scribed for the hood side panels and modifications to the blade are needed.

Those are awesome, they look way better then those highway pads.

So my big question is - How many are there ?

I cant wait to see what you do for the rollers and drive sprockets .

Dennis,

Your work on the tracks was wlorht it. They look very good!

What other electric tools do you have? Besides the sander and drill press?

I have the budget minded 2" tablesaw from Micro Mark, And it has more than paid for itself over the years. i would like a belt sander and drill press and the bigger better 2' table saw.

Be Well

Too many! I counted 53 Sean. The other track still needs to be completed. Purchasing the belt sander for this was money well spent.

The only other power tool is a band saw I've had for quite a few years. The drill press is a handy and versatile tool.

Beautiful Work!

Great progress... B)

Thank you Ira!

Thanks Dave...it will be a load for a 125 ton trailer that I plan to start on soon.

I have seen builds that have been converted to R/C....I applaud them for their work!

The existing drive sprockets were modified for a more realistic look. These pictures show the saw cuts that were made:

The following pictures show the modifications made. In the first picture, 1” CPVC was inserted and 1/4” was left exposed. The exposed part was wrapped with .040’ styrene

for height correction:

This is some really Stellar work going on here. Those sprockets are way cool. I dont know how many hrs you put into research , but it is really showing.

I can almost recall the smell of grime and funk from those machines by looking at the pics ;)

Thanks everyone! Sometimes I get ahead of myself and fail to take pictures :D. Today I started to make new idler wheels, lower rollers after that...
