Speedfreak Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I've got a car with one coat of Tamiya gray surface primer on it, that I'm letting sit overnight. The plan is to cover this with Krylon Short-Cuts Chrome, and then , Tamiya Racing Blue , with a day, or so , drying time between each paint. Any problems? I just like that look of the Krylon chrome, it's more like silver paint then actual chrome. Thanks.
slusher Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 If you went with Tamiya silver leaf all paint would be Tamiya. The Krylon works great with Tamiya primer. I have never sprayed Tamiya over Krylon.
Snake45 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Let us know how it works. If it doesn't...well, we know you know how to strip paint.
Erik Smith Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Test on a spoon first. Pretty sure the Krylon short cuts are enamel and the Tamiya is a lacquer - they usually don't olay together well. I tried some Krylon with different clears and some lacquer would cause wrinkling sometimes, some wouldn't at all, and some just exploded and turned into fire breathing, mutated shar peis.
Speedfreak Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) Carl, the only reason I want to use the Krylon Chrome is because it has these yellow/gold hues in it that I like, and it's kind of dull. All the Tamiya silvers are just 'silver. Looks like I am going to be shooting spoons sometime in the next couple of days as weather permits. Let us know how it works. If it doesn't...well, we know you know how to strip paint. Ha! That's for sure. " and some just exploded and turned into fire breathing, mutated shar peis " I'd like to see that! Thanks you guys.
