jacoballardtattoo Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I just entered the hobby but I always shoot for the stars with every project I do. I love the models that are not prefect, ones that look like what people normally see driving around town, weathered. So if anyone else loves these less than perfect builds please post what you have done here. I'm searching for ideas and to learn more on doing weathered builds. Again thank you. I will try and get some pics of the one I'm doing right now up soon.
High octane Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 You can post them in the Under Glass section. We don't need 47 sections here, as most stuff will fit in the sections we already have.
Cato Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 You can skim through my current WIP here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=86520 My big Rolls has use and wear patina throughout the chassis, drivetrain and interior. Many tips for you there.
Foxer Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 This is a '55 Cameo I did as my first rusted working truck I also did a '53 VW Bug I owned when in Germany that was a bit banged up and I tried to replicate the 1:1 I did this replica on my daughters '85 GMC Van she called her "Hippie Van" .. was an old farm truck she got for cheap and, don't leave the Mouse Rod out of this Weathering is a blast .. can abandon all those cleanliness techniques you've spent years learning and just build and mess it up! I have to agree with Nick, though, we have way too many sections here as it is.
jacoballardtattoo Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Nick and Lee, I didn't mean to start a post that would clog up anything, I only went this route for the chance of starting a collection of just weathered models. I have checked out the under glass section and it is a wonderful collection of beautifully built models but as weathered models are not as popular as show room styles I have a hard time finding the style I enjoy. Again I had no idea this was the wrong way to go about it. I do appreciate the input though, it is best to find out you went the wrong route before go down it to far. It's there an easy way to separate the weathered models from the rest in the under the glass section?
Foxer Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 There's really no way to sort the weathered from not, but you can find many because of the common use of the term "weathering" . Use Goggle to search this forum for "weathering" .. the forum search is not a good one. Paste this into Google to do it ... site:modelcarsmag.com weathering Replace "weathering" with any term you want to search for ..
jacoballardtattoo Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 (edited) Thank you Mike, I will try that . I am trying to learn all the terms, you said the term weathered is a rather broad one so I want to make sure I'm using it correctly. What I'm looking to find is the models built not to look there ultimate best but to look as most would driving around town. Am I using the correct term here?
