Ok so plumbing he brakes and tanks is cool and all, but I don't have a clue where the compressors are to supply the air to the tanks. I've got the Pete 352, Transtar 4300, Pete 377 and White Freightliner COE with the NTC-250 Cummins. The instructions seem to label every part BUT the compressor.

Also if anyone has any plumbed Cummins ntc-250's if you have any pics they would be appreciated, even if it is gizmology based.

On the 8v71s it's the big part at the back of the motor kinda on top. On the others it's usually mounted on the drivers side without the Fan belts. The compressors are typically ran off the front cover gear drive so the trick doesn't run out of air in event of a fan belt breaking. It looks kinda like a small Briggs and Stratton engine.

Yup. A "giveaway" on most compressors like Clayton pointed out is they usually have cooling fins. If you cant find anything that looks like a 1 cylinder B&S engine, try looking for what sort looks like 1 cylinder "jug" on a motorcycle. It might be an eyestrain as the ones supplied by AMT for Cummins engines are far from well detailed. It almost looks more like an old ford style air conditioner compressor but as Clayton pointed out, is gear driven. And if I recall, it does not fit worth a hoot either.

try googling "used diesel engines". I cant recall the sites and am too lazy to do it right now, but there is a couple of websites like "auto traders" just loaded with pix of virtually every diesel engine you will ever see in a truck..or about anything else for that matter.

Good luck.

Peace.

I spent quite a bit of time perusing the different engines, and didn't come up with much.

I don't know WHAT engine is in the Pete 377 kit. Italeri says Caterpillar, but I've only found ONE pic of a Cat engine that looks like this and I think it's Detroit I keep seeing them as. Which sucks because I already painted it a nice yellow. Which is how it's going to stay.

On that Cummins in the AMT kit, like you said nothing looks like it at all. On none them actually that I can see. Perhaps some but it appears to be like an oil cooler or something. Sometimes I can be dense when I'm looking for something though. LOL. Stick a Gas engine in front of me, and tell me what you want done I'll do it. You can be vague. Such as give me more power. Or rebuild it, whatever doesn't matter. I know what everything is,w hat it does, how to line everything up, etc. This diesel stuff? HAH. I understand the concepts of how they run and all, but about the only thing I could do to one is if you pointed said that is called X, go replace it. MONGO GO.

Now sticking me behind the wheel is another story. While I don't drive one, I haven't run across anything I haven't been able to drive and drive well in under 5 minutes. 30 foot box van, public transportation bus, heavy equipment, forklifts, reach trucks, cherry pickers, anything. Doesn't matter. Just have a knack for it I guess. First time out 4 wheelin, I was able to pick a line and drive it perfectly with no hiccups or anything on a double black diamond trail. The club could hardly believe it(as I could hardly as well).

Hey Micheal, check out my thread "Life on the Line"...I took some pics while working at Western Star Trucks in kelowna. I believe that there is one taken of the right side (drivers) while on engine line...it is of a C15 Cat, but could hopefully still useful for ya!

The Italeri 377 has a Detroit Series 60.

It most certainly does. I think Italeri read a Pete sales brochure and kinda paraphrased a version to the box, not knowing what motor they put in the box. I really need to get by the Freightliner dealer and some 60 series paint.

Groovy thanks for the info.

That last pic does have me a bit perplexed though. Looks like the air supply hose is going into the side of the head or block there.

Some are also for the jake brakes. On C12s there's a big air line that goes from the drivers side to the passenger side. I think, im not positive, the compressor puts pressure into the intake to help get the high cylinder pressure needed for a diesel engine. I haven't seen any water cooled air compressors before. The major supply air lines are big, which almost look like water lines on a small block Chevy or Ford, which ever you prefer. Maybe one of current or former diesel mechanics could chime in with a little info.

I can't seem to get a picture to attach here but there was a long series of detailing truck engines and such from one of the 70s car model mags (Tidewater Trucker or something like that). Air compressors were addressed and there were both water and cooling lines to the thing.

The info was downloaded from some model trucker site where he had images of countless model truck pages. Perhaps someone on this board can point you in the right direction as I can't seem to find the links....

Dang SWEET. I LOVE it when someone posts something like this. I think this is the second time you've done this in one of my threads. You my Czech friend are awesome.

That's the site I was referring to. Thanks
