robiwon Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Started this a week or so ago. Taking a break from some scifi projects. Building this out of the box but adding some engine wiring and a few extra PE parts from the spares. Started of course with the engine and rear suspension. Added spark plug wires and other wires and tubing based on photo studies of the real thing. Spark plug wires in. Had to scratch the duel distributors mounted on the chassis rails. More work done. Heater hoses and other lines run.
robiwon Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 (edited) For the body color, I'm going blue! Edited February 4, 2015 by robiwon
Twokidsnosleep Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Great topic, following along; like to see something other than red Superb engine build so far I think I have one of these in my stash too
dino246gt Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Looks like a very good build so far, is it a nice kit?
PowerPlant Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Looks great so far! Does this kit feature a removable top/roof?
robiwon Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Thanks guys. Yes, it's a great kit, typical Hasegawa quality for the time. A little flash here and there but not bad at all. And yes the roof has a separate removable roof panel. Fit has been great so far.
robiwon Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 Re-chromed the wheels using Spaz Stix line of chrome paints. One coat of the black base and one coat of the chrome. Turned out rather nice! It's a little shinier than the stock satin chrome finish. Hard to get a good shots of them though.
robiwon Posted February 22, 2015 Author Posted February 22, 2015 Engine and most of the interior done. Need to finish the dash and then on to the body.
robiwon Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 Chassis and interior finished! Now waiting on some warmer weather so I can start the body painting.
robiwon Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 Got the windows masked and painted. Waiting on stickers to arrive from Japan so I can add the steering wheel emblem. The heat shield over the mufflers was covered in textured foil from a pack of cigarettes. Next step is the body, just waiting for some warmer weather....
Twokidsnosleep Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Absolutely great work Can't wait to see it painted up all blue and purty
Nacho Z Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 This is really looking nice, Robert. Sorry if I missed it, but what paint / color did you use for the interior?
Quick GMC Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Looking very nice. Where did you get those Ferrari emblems? I need some of those.
Scalper Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 That is looking nice so far. nice detail work. looks like a nice kit. looking forward to seeing paint on the body.
robiwon Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) Thanks guys. The emblems I got off eBay. Just search for "1/24 Ferrari stickers". Here is the car with color thrown on, it's Tamiya TS-19 Metallic Blue. Next is clear coat and polishing. Edited March 15, 2015 by robiwon
robiwon Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 Thanks Scalper. Nacho Z, I used Tamiya Semi Gloss Black and Model Color tan for the interior.
robiwon Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) Clear coats applied and glass Future dipped. Now to let it sit and harden for a week and then polish! Edited March 20, 2015 by robiwon
Twokidsnosleep Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Paint looks awesome!! Did you Future the body as well or something else?? I am going to steal the sealed plastic tub idea so I keep my mitts off the paint until it fully cures
robiwon Posted March 21, 2015 Author Posted March 21, 2015 (edited) Thanks! Just dipped the glass. The clear is just Testors gloss coat. I'll be picking up some Tamiya clear as I eventually phase out my Testors stuff. The Testors was all I had on hand as far as gloss. I was a little leery about using it over the Tamiya paint but it came out pretty good. So what is the popular polish people use now? Being a scifi modeler I don't keep polish around too often. The plastic tub I got at HobbyLobby, but you can find them all over, even dollar stores. Edited March 21, 2015 by robiwon
