Shelby 427 1965 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 So, I finally got this kit in the livery I wanted - the white and blue one. It took about 3 years to find it at an affordable price. So, I'm going to do a fair amount of detail on it. All work is based on what few reference pictures of this year of the car I could find. I've built the 206 before, but I never managed to get the livery I really wanted and I ended up weathering the life out of it because I made too many mistakes. As ever with my builds, I cranked on the tunes... Tonight I went for some ZZ. Don't ask me why, but the first thing I did was the dashboard. I really enjoy the dashboards in racing vehicles... Next up was the underside and wheels... I'm going to foil the exhaust, as the pics I found had heat shields on them. The wheels are painted white, the lighting doesn't help... Now, according to reference pics, there should be a kevlar cover and a foot rest on the driver's side. The kit doesn't depict this at all. I gave it a go, I may redo it to improve it but this is what I came up with quickly... So, that's what I have for now, I do plan on trying to push myself a bit more on detail with this one, only way to learn really.. For now I'm calling it a night and setting it in the spray booth to keep dust away! Thanks for lookin', all comments and helpful tips and pics are appreciated.
Nacho Z Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Great job on the dash, Tomo. A lot of nice detail painting there. May I suggest that you hit the tread of your tires with sandpaper or a sanding stick. It will knock off the flash in the middle of the tread.
Chillyb1 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 That's a great kit and I've built it maybe six times, still have a couple in the stash, too! Good luck with those decals. I swore I'd never, ever build this version again.
Shelby 427 1965 Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 D'oh, rookie mistake! God knows how I forgot to notice that. Must do that tomorrow. Oh boy, I was worried someone would tell me the decals were a pain.. And I was praying for smooth sailing!
Nacho Z Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Hey Curtis, what is up with the decals? Is it that they would not settle down? I know some of the rally kits' decals would not lay down and then they would end of cracking. Thanks.
fitforbattle Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I wish you luck with the decals, but if I managed to build the Corolla, you'll make this with no problems. Dash looks great, and I agree, racing dashes are sooooo coooool.
Relic_Models Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Didn't know Tamiya had a 206. Looking forward to seeing what you do, Tomo.
Shelby 427 1965 Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 (edited) Thanks Andre, Robin and Chris! Tamiya has multiple 206s... There's the one I'm doing now, this one: this one: This one: this one: And then the one I built 3 years ago: Edited February 27, 2015 by Shelby 427 1965
dodouglas Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 (edited) Niceee! I'm building this kit too, i need to finish the dashboard, with details. And i love the another 206, great job with the dirt. I'll be watching!!! Edited February 27, 2015 by dodouglas
afx Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Love seeing rally cars built here. I'll be watching.
Shelby 427 1965 Posted February 28, 2015 Author Posted February 28, 2015 (edited) I had a half hour or so to spare today so I tried to make a little bit more progress. I made the curly wire thing for the steering wheel, fuel lines and a couple more wires on the foot rest thing. Unfortunately I don't have many reference pics of where wires and things are in the interior... When I have time I'll go back and tidy things up a bit, like the dots on the foot rests.
