Stray
Indeed. Reminds me of the late lamented AMT Candy Oriental Blue. and again thanks I don't know the colour you refer to though, but I do love the AutoAir range. The transparents, like their candies, are built up in very light layers. And some of the trans have a very candy-like effect. The only drawback is the thickness of the total layers. Stray
Looks awesome! Steering box is going to hit your valve I think Thanks Freakshow. The box will be okay though as the valve is located directly under the booster and the steering box mounts just in front of the crossmember, the only thing I'm concerned with at the moment is clearance with the exhaust manifold. I MAY have to take some liberties on where the steering column comes out of the firewall, but have not been able to mock it up since I haven't even built that yet lol. Thanks for looking folks. Stray
Ya just a little detailed, welcome back in a big way...............BOOM! Your back Thanks Dumpy. Yeah I might just be getting a tad carried away! But looking around at some of the awesome builds here I just keep getting inspired. I just know I'm gonna screw something up soon enough. I have already lost the kit dizzy, and now it appears my steering wheel has gone walkabout too dangit.

Stray
Slow day, Had a late night out so took it easy today. Here is some progress: Got some flock down for the carpet: Painted the lettering on the tyres. Yeah, that's how dodgey I am! They are complete now: Have the rear kit shocks painted. The kit has no front shocks and only small springs due to the way the upper and lower control arms are set up, so I have made some springs and will be cutting down some shocks from a monster truck to add a little detail to the front suspension: And lastly, I have been working on the throttle return spring and linkage from the carby. Still have to scratch the accelerator linkages, but this is the return spring anyhow. Also a bunch of close ups of the fitted pieces:

Stray
Thanks Rmpd Today I decided to install the diff and have a crack at the front end. Will update tomorrow maybe on this, but for now here is a taste. This thick thing with the holes in it is the kit's steering rack, which attached to a pin on the lower control arm of all things! I may end up using it if I stuff up completely, so have not tossed it out yet... But here is the steering box from my leftovers, kit unknown. I have a little fab work to make it almost similar kind of to the chevelle one if you squint really hard. And using rod for the rack I am bui8lding fr4om reference pics. Like I said, this may all go to hell soon enough lol Bits: Where I'm going...
Roadrunner
That blue looks excellent. Model car painting has been fascinating me for a while now. The right colors (and their application), can make or break a model, to my eye.
Stray
Thanks Roadrunner Yeah colour choice can be hard if it is not a replica. I tossed half a dozen colours around before choosing this one. Okay, not much of an update, but this is the third set of bits for this steering rack and I'm pretty happy with these so it should be going together tomorrow I hope. Roadrunner
Man... like my eyes my hands are nowhere near as steady as they were 20 years ago! I can certainly relate. In my case, a couple of gallons of coffeine a day doesn't help either.

That would be handy for shaking up your paint bottles at least!
Stray
I bit the bullet and ordered some more Alclad. Got the gloss klear kote and a bottle of aqua clear. Plus some micro gloss, micro kristal klear and bmf adhesive. I think the BMF i got is a bit old and the adhesive isn't great so gonna try this stuff to give it a better stick. I also ordered some resin parts for the first time! Getting a 49 merc from johnny flintstone, and found http://www.one-twenty-fifthcustoms.com/ an aussie supplier online so I bought a tunnel ram and carbies set plus a few pre wired dizzies. Gonna play with some resin woohoo! Heres what I got: Edited March 26, 2015 by Stray
Stray
Rear suspension is done, front is almost done, but it is enough to allow me to mock-up to check the stance. Body not sanded yet, so a buttload of orange peel is visible. I'm liking the stance as it is
Stray
Double checking and test fitting and working out the position of the sway bar mounts on the lower control arms and making sure things fit and clear each other and yadda yadda yadda. Almost done with the front end, just making sure everythings gonna work nicely before final paint and touch-ups and glue.
Roadrunner
Car looks real good. I love that color, (I've always been partial to blue.). I think it'll sparkle like diamonds when you're through.
horsepower
I know I got into this build really late, but for future reference, starting in 1958 Chevrolet distributor caps were held on with two screws, not spring clips.
Stray
Car looks real good. I love that color, (I've always been partial to blue.). I think it'll sparkle like diamonds when you're through. Thanks RR... time will tell, and it's getting close to sanding time... *shudder* I know I got into this build really late, but for future reference, starting in 1958 Chevrolet distributor caps were held on with two screws, not spring clips. Thanks for the info HP! I did not know that. Over here Holden (GM) was still using spring clips up til 1988 from what I know, until they started using coil packs for the new cars then. Stray
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!! Such a stupid mistake I know, but when painting the body and bonnet at the same time to get a proper colour match I also left the bonnet taped in place when clearing. Then the clear dried didn't it... which essentially sealed the bonnet in place! I tried to gently slice through the gap to separate them but the damage was done, paint lifted from the fender as pressure was applied. Dammit. I thought it was while sanding that I would screw it up lol. I am gonna proceed to sand the body and as long as that is okay, I will mask up and redo the top fenders/wiper areas and the bonnet again. What a foolish mistake... If all goes well I will keep the blue, if not, she will be good old black with white stripes. Look at my idiocy! DeeCee
Some very nice details going into this build mate, and the Alclad has turned out great. Bugger about the paint lifting, but i suppose, as long as we learn from our mistakes, they aren't too bad, it's when we do it a second time, that is when i get angry.
