Petetrucker07 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) This is my next project. Starting with a Revell snap Pete. Gonna do some choppin and cuttin to make it a 2 axle day cab. No stretch, but it will be slammed. The paint will resemble the inspiration. I want to replicate the 1:1, if it were a 359, not a 379. Â Â Here's the inspiration. Â Â I'll be startin on this in the next week or so. I need to get all the parts together, into 1 box. I have everything, I think, here at the house. The stacks, bumper, visor and stainless strip. Petetrucker07 Posted April 23, 2015 Author Posted April 23, 2015 As long as work doesn't call me in, I'm gonna start on this tomorrow since I have the day off. I want to at least get the sleeper cut off and frame cut down, maybe even start on the suspension.
slusher Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Great looking truck for inspiration. Looking forward to the build
Jim B Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Nice looking hay hauler. How are you going to do the green flames?
Petetrucker07 Posted April 23, 2015 Author Posted April 23, 2015 That's the plan. I'm not exactly sure how I'm gonna go about it. But I know I'm spraying the yellow first.
Petetrucker07 Posted April 23, 2015 Author Posted April 23, 2015 Started cuttin this mornin. I cut the sleeper off so far. Next I'm either gonna make the cab panel or cut on the frame.
Petetrucker07 Posted April 23, 2015 Author Posted April 23, 2015 I got the chassis started. I'm gonna shorten this up about a half inch. Then slam it in the weeds.
Petetrucker07 Posted April 23, 2015 Author Posted April 23, 2015 Well again work spoiled my momentum today. Oh well. I get more done later or this weekend.
Tesla Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Clayton I got this info from Dan Slade's 39 Dodge custom hauler...http://stores.ebay.com/Lazy-Modeller/Flame-Masks-/_i.html?_fsub=1810810012&_sid=42302562&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322
Petetrucker07 Posted April 23, 2015 Author Posted April 23, 2015 Thanks for the link. Hope I can find something that'll work.
KJ790 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 This is going to be awesome! I'm going to be watching this one for sure. I am curious to see how you end up doing the paint as well. If you are looking for a lower profile tire than the Moebius tires, I just remastered my low pro tires. Once I get my first batch of lowboy kits out I will be adding these to my website.
Petetrucker07 Posted April 23, 2015 Author Posted April 23, 2015 Funny you say that about the tires Kurt. I'll be ordering 6 for this. PM me with the price and I'll get paid this weekend.
bandit1 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Nice 289.... (single axle 359) I need to get more snappers... :P
Petetrucker07 Posted April 23, 2015 Author Posted April 23, 2015 I think this was kitted after Pete quite the 2 axle separation numbers. I'm sure what year the 289 number was stopped.
bandit1 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 So they stopped the number?... I knew they stopped it but didn't know when?
Petetrucker07 Posted April 23, 2015 Author Posted April 23, 2015 From what I could find, so far, was 72 was the last year of the 289. It was only used on the small window years, 67-72.
Petetrucker07 Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 Now that I got work out of the way. I got the wheelbase shortened up as much as I could and still have room for the quarter fenders. I mocked it up the right size tires from Double Take, 225s on Moebius wheels. Now on to lowering this as low as I can.
Petetrucker07 Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 I got the front as low as it can go and still use the bumper I have. The rear will be easy, cut the air bags, bump stops and shave a couple leafs off.
Petetrucker07 Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 Here's a mock up with the tall curve out stacks. They almost look too tall. I'm gonna dig out the shorter curve outs I have and compare.
Truck parts Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Cool build so far. and I will be following as you go on.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Looks like a rabbit with those huge stacks.
Randy D Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Hi Clayton, Really like that slammed look you are going for !! Can'nt wait to see some paint on this one Randy
fantacmet Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 I've got an idea with stacks you might like. They'd have to be 3D printed, but the newest stuff from shapeways is supersmooth I can see ZERO marks on the hookset I had them print. The idea I have is with the optical illusion on the stacks in that inspiration pic. Some kind of cross spiral cut. If I can remember I'll see what I can come up with.
Petetrucker07 Posted April 25, 2015 Author Posted April 25, 2015 (edited) Thanks for checking in on this build everyone. Gordon, thanks and hope this build won't get boring or I loose motivation. Miles, I'm gonna be stickin the shorter stacks on this mornin. Randy, I lookin for the right shade of yellow. Who knew yellow would be hard to find. Thanks Charles. Hope this would be worthy to sit next to your builds. Micheal, I'm curious about the stacks. Sounds like a cool idea. I'm gonna try to get this in primer this weekend. It's gonna be hard since my weekend is shortened again. I gotta leave for work late Sunday night and be out all week. I would do some motel room building, but won't have much time.
