dantewallace
Alright, so I had this Monogram 71 Cuda kit in my stash and was super excited to start on it. http://modelcarsandmore.net/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/075.79185311_std.JPG I opened the box and see that it's nearly empty,I then look at the box art and see that it's a skill level 2. For me that's not enough but I decided to start it anyway. As I started airbrushing parts the part count kept bothering me, IMO allot of things that should be included are missing from the kit which I assume is because of the skill level. Anyway the kit is (okay) but I need something more with allot more detail and parts and the correct tires. Can you guys recommend another 71 kit over this one? I want the best that's out. I have searched allot but so many different kits are made of this car that I don't know which to trust. Thanks guys!! niteowl7710
It's an old Monogram kit from the 80's, that pretty much what you got out of those kits. It's also the only game in town when it comes to a '71, unless you want to shell out the coin for an original JoHan or MPC Annual kit, and then you'd find even less parts and fun things like metal axles. Since apparently this kit doesn't stir your building desires, you could always get one of the new 1970 Cuda kits and then scratch build and whatnot to update it to a 1971... dantewallace
So nothing has been retooled or changed in this kit since the release of the kit I mentioned? Is this the most recent release? http://shop.hobbylobby.com/assets/1/14/DimZoom/391094.jpg
PowerPlant
I'm no expert on this topic, but I do believe this is the latest Revell release of the 71 Cuda... http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/instruction_sheetsh/instruction_sheets/revell-5/revell-71-plymouth-/revell-1971-hemi-2.html Only difference to previous editions, that I am aware of, are vinyl roof and probably a new/updated decal sheet There are options in these kits (hoods, wheels etc...), but no updated/more detailed tooling, unfortunately... I think that was just on the box art, pretty sure that kit has never had a vinyl top. There is also the convertible version that has been reissued a couple times. There are vintage, out of production 1/25th scale '71s--the MPC annual and the Johan Sox & Martin drag car, but for cost and availability the R-M kits are the only current choices. Who knows, Revell may do a '71 version of the new '70 Hemi Cuda kit eventually. Or the aftermarket will do a resin conversion kit for it. The Street Machine is a different variant of the same tooling, much the same way the "Nash Bridges" Convertible kit was. But those wheels, the "Raisin Bran" hood, and the vinyl top (if it existed at all) aren't in the standard '71 Hemi Cuda kit.
dantewallace
Since you already have the kit, why not build yourself a decent shelf model out of it? They don't all have to be super detailed show winners. A little work, paint, foil and parts swapping will go a long way on this old kit. It's no show winner or even a contender by a long shot. But, it looks cool on the shelf. To me, that's all that matters. Build it and have some fun with it. You just may surprise yourself in the end. Pssssshhhh!! That looks like a contender and possible show winner to me Roger!! Love the color and the cragars on it. My intentions with the kit "were" to actually show it this season but lacking what I feel that it needs will lead it to being shelved as you stated. Hard_2_Handle_454
I had the same kit and mine came out looking pretty good.
mnwildpunk
Since no one else has suggested why don't you add, modify, scratchbuild and swap parts to build the show stopper you want.
6bblbird
I have always wanted to build a '71 'cuda but I just can't seem to get over all of the innacuracies of the Revell/Monogram kit. In addition, it's 1/24 scale which doesn't work for me. I have some Johan '71 bodies that are ( in my opinion ) pretty good. Unfortunately, they never came with anything but race car interiors, and running gear. I am going to try and mate one of these bodies with the new Revell '70 'cuda interior and chassis. I'll keep you posted. WF
