larman
This is the junkyard gasser I am currently working on. It started out with the load of parts in the first pic. These were gathered from fleamarket finds. Both bodies were pretty screwed up so I decided to cut the best parts away, and rejoin them to make one good one.(pic 2 and 3). Since this was a nothing to lose situation, and I have several other AMT and Revell '49s to make custom and stock, I decided to go off the wall and make this a gasser. Highly unlikely I know, but I was kind of inspired by "The Flintstone Flyer Packard" which was also a big heavy bulbous body for drag racing. I figure this would probably be a D or E gas car, although I am not sure what engine I am using yet. I am thinking the 413 that came with the car. So far you can see the mock up in the last 2 pics, with the wheelwells radiused and the big satco slicks, which may be changed depending on what time period I am shooting for. Also I am making this a flipnose, so the front end was glued together and I am in the process of smoothing it all out and making it fit properly.I know it's a weirdo, but I think it will be cool when it's finished! -Larman
noname
Looks good so far. I don't know right off what year they would have allowed a flip front end in Gasser class but it would probably be a little later on . By that time you probably could of had fibreglass body parts. This of course would make this car more lighter.
Dennis Lacy
Your off to a great start! It's really, really refreshing to see a Merc not built as a custom - model, real or otherwise. It's got a good stance and the 12-spokes and radiused fenders look awesome.
Modellpularn
Yeah, it's a different twist on the ol' Merc, but very cool! I also like the 12 spoke wheels, maybe raise it some more in the front?

I am planning on making the fornt just a tick higher, it is just mocked up right now. -Larry
