Jantrix Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 (edited) Okay guys, I'm building an AMT 49 Ford and giving serious consideration on building it *gasp* box stock. I've run into a few issues. First - concerning the custom rolled pans with those lil nerf bars - I love them. However the instructions seem to show a rolled rear pan in the picture but no part is available in the kit or shown in elsewhere in the instructions. Was this part available in previous verions/releases? If so DOES ANYONE HAVE ONE THAT THEY WOULD TRADE!? Also the kit comes with a Caddy engine. No information comes with this kit as to which engine it is supposed to represent. Anyone have an idea? Lastly, I used the tripower air cleaner for another build. Does anyone have one they would trade? Edited January 3, 2012 by Jantrix
roadhawg Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Those bumperettes really do look good on that car........... It's possible that I have another pan and air cleaner, but I won't be home for another week.....if you haven't found them by then, I'll be glad to look. The engine is supposed to be a 50's era 331, I believe. They were pretty popular with hot rodders back then.
62rebel Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 every time i've bought that kit, that pan was in it somewhere, it might have come free of the sprue and gotten misplaced. i can't say what Cadillac they INTEND the engine to represent, but i'd hazard a guess its a 390, or could be made to resemble one with some work.
62rebel Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 the '50 convertible has a pan without a license plate reveal in it, if you can't score the correct piece quickly...
roadhawg Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 The 331 was pretty much the same as a 390, the same as a 283 Chevy is the same as a 350. They also had a 365 C.I. version. The Revell parts pack 354 is the same engine, I always wondered why they called it a 354. Bored out 331, I suppose. Very cool engine for a period rod or custom.
Jantrix Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 Guys, I thank you for the help and advice, but I found the missing part. It had somehow gotten swept into my desk drawer. Thanks for the advice on the engine and I STILL do need the air cleaner.
crazyjim Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 If Eric can't help you out, Rob, let me know. My inventory shows I have a 1949 Ford Coupe AMT #6805.
Jantrix Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 Looks like Erik has me hooked up, but I'll holler if I still need one Jim.
