thoughts about replicating bus' sheet metal

19 February 2013 - 11:32 PM

I'm thinking about attempting my first scratch build, a conversion of a Eagle silver eagle coach.  I'm just beginning the research for materials but am curious if any of you have any thoughts on how to replicate the aluminum(?) sheet metal.  I've seen a few decals that I could use for some of the riveting but for the actual texture/ribbing I'm scratching my head...

AMC Super Car

11 February 2013 - 09:17 PM

Saw this tonight...a 1970 AMC AMX/3 prototype.  Unfortunately never saw the light of day due to the gas crisis.  A mid engine, 390, 345 HP, 4 speed auto monster...I'd have LOVED to have one of these to run on the 1/4 mile....

Thinking of donor kits for this...

I am thinking of making a high-tech "school bus" of the future...but it will still be ground based.  Want to honor all our relatives who walked 50 miles uphill each way in the snow to school...so I'm thinking of going half-track rear end and multi axle front end, big block ford powered (thinking staying true to the old Ford gas v8's of the truck categories).

I know the old S'chool Bus of the 70's, anyone have any ideas that would make an interesting start?

What year Jimmy is this?

Saw this on Flickr and immediately wanted to build it. Very cool historical truck.

Noobie question regarding tire/wheel spacing

29 May 2012 - 09:36 PM

first off, I'll qualify my question by saying not only am I a noobie as far as truck builds (well, I built the Movin On and Watkins reefer kits 30 years ago) but for some reason when I got the bug to build again I decided to build big rigs.  Haven't driven big rigs (except fire apparatus/tenders), so I don't have years crawling around in/on big rigs.

I'm building the AMT/Ertl lowboy trailer, and when using both the inner and outer chrome wheel trim, there is probably a good 1/4 gap between the tires.  Now I've never studied lowboy tires, but that seems odd.  Should there be that big of a gap?

I'm thinking of just trimming the inner rings so I can get rid of the gap.  Right or wrong?
