  1. I’m pleased to hear that this model has given you the motivation to build one of your own. I have read good things about the C5 but some people aren’t inspired by them. I guess one reason is their styling is less like an American sports muscle car than the other generations of the Corvette. I am still undecided about the C8 which has definitely gone in a different direction - good car but belongs to a different genre I feel. It would be great to a good model kit of a C8 though, and I am sure I would buy such a kit. ?
  2. Nice model! It would be fun to drive one of these along a twisty road.
  3. Thanks for the comment Wes. Sounds like you had some fun with the Corvettes, it is interesting that you preferred the C5 over the C6. One would expect a later model to be better.
  4. Sharp build, with a few twists like the frenched tail lights to make it more personal. That colour looks really good on a ‘32 Ford rod as well.
  5. Thanks for the tutorial Tim, I’ve got a tripod and some spare time as I am not working at the moment due to a lockdown here in England so I’ll have a go and see what I come up with.
  6. Thanks Tim! I really had to up my game when I began writing for a magazine, I'd like to learn how to take photos like Bernard Kron though who does the clever see-though pictures (there are a couple of examples on the roadster/cabriolet thread at the moment).
  7. Here’s a picture of it that I took with my IPhone when the kit was being assembled on my workbench. How something is photographed really affects colour as factors such as lighting, the camera used, depth of field, exposure time, etc. all affect it.
  8. Hi Chang, I've put details about the paint I used in the reply to Scott just now. I used Stynylez White Primer, Zero Xenon Blue and Zero 2-pack Diamond Gloss Clearcoat. A set of polishing cloths, Novus 2, wax and Novus 1 finished the paintwork.
  9. Thanks guys! Scott, I used Zero Paints Xenon Blue (ZP-1139) which is their colour for the C5R that raced in blue to mark 50 years of the Corvette and to celebrate the victories they had at Le Mans. Looking at pictures of the race car and the road car together it appears that the road car is slightly lighter in colour so I used a few less coats on the Commemorative Edition road car. They have been photographed under flash units (as I write for a magazine) and look quite bright on a computer screen, it is a little darker in reality and looks right. If Zero paints are difficult for you to get I'm sure Model Car World Finishes could get an accurate shade for you (mcwfinishes.com) I think the paint code for the car is WA-993L - Le Mans Blue Metallic. Revell have done a few versions of the C5 Corvette, both coupes and convertibles, if you like this generation of the Corvette I'd definitely recommend one as they are all essentially the same kit.
  10. Thanks Cliff! I had to respray the bonnet twice before I was happy with the colour matching of the base coat.
  11. Thanks Phil, I had the race car partly built and had a C5 in the stash but when I saw a Commemorative Edition kit at a model show it was quickly bought as I thought they would make a nice pair in my Corvette collection, especially since they both are marking achievements in the Corvette's history.
  12. Thanks Michael, your thread has prompted people to put some nice models up onto the forum that have been great to look through. There is a place near me (in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England - about 15 miles north of Birmingham) that used to make the chassis rails for 1932 Fords. The cabriolets were imported though so a I thought a right-hand drive example in my collection would be something different. The colour is Ford Fiesta Hot Magenta which is a pearl where you spray a metallic base, then a translucent coat before the clear (which on this model is two-pack).
  13. Thanks Carl and Dominik! Here's another picture of the build:
  14. Cool! I’ll send you a message so that we don’t hijack this thread.
  15. Thanks Craig! I'd recommend the Revell C5 Corvette kits if you're a fan of them and would like one for your collection.
  16. Yes, cars as a hobby get really expensive. I had a '34 Ford street rod that just drank money. It was great to have something unique and I enjoyed having it for seven years but the money that was tied up in it was used for replacing my driving school car. This really cut down my business overheads so it was much better use of money. I've got the Revell '67 as a convertible (and a coupe as well), what did you think of it as a kit? I'm kit-bashing my AMT 63' spit window so it has more detail, I'll post it on here when it is finished.
  17. Thanks guys! I chose Opalescent Silver Blue as it is the colour that one of my Dad's friends had that I remember sitting in as a young lad when he used to visit us in Harvey Station, N.B. I felt that a red interior would would well as it would be easier to see in a coupe. I'd say it is the best kit we've had yet of an E-type in 1/24 scale, especially with a body moulding that gets rid of the seam between the doors and the bonnet.
  18. Thanks Mike. Sounds like you had some cool Corvettes. It would be fun to have a go in the '72. I haven't decided which generation to build next. I have a '63 AMT split-window coupe that is nearing the assembly phase so it would make sense to finish that one off before starting something new.
  19. Here's a couple pictures of a test shot I built for a magazine (Airfix Model World, current issue - December 2020) - normally I wouldn't do this on this forum but since Model Cars Magazine is only just getting going again I don't think I'm stealing any of their thunder (I'm really hoping MCM is going to be a big success, the model car building community really needs it).
  20. Lovely build, I like the way you've edited the first photo was well with the badge and script included as well.
  21. Thanks Larry! I'm building up a collection of each generation of the Corvette, don't hold your breath though - it'll take me years! Lol
  22. Well, the topic did say roadster/cabriolet so I thought I'd add a cabriolet to all the nice roadsters people have shared on this thread. This one was built using a body from Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland and spare parts from various Revell '32 kits.
  23. Thanks Matt. I think the chassis pan on my kit was a bit warped, had to cut two slits in each side to give it some flexibility to get both ends to meet the interior/engine compartment assembly.
  24. Hi everyone, I've been spending time on this forum but it has been ages since I posted any of my completed models. Here is a 2004 C5 Corvette Commemorative Edition I just finished today (Revell kit, built out of the box). It goes nicely with the C5R I built earlier this year. I hope everyone's model building projects are going well and that they have a great weekend. Cheers, Jim
