1967 Freight Shaker

Nice build - there's a lot of work that has been put into this. It is also nice to see a model with such a personal story behind it. -
Nice '34 - the colour scheme works really well. You don't see many of the 34s built up (at least over here in the U.K.), especially with the Drag City Castings resin body (the only one I have seen here is a nice one done by Lee Elliot). The colour scheme reminds me of the 90s rods - you have also got the smooth style on this build that was popular then as well.

Nice C6 Corvette - the colour scheme has worked out really well. Well done on getting the award!

Nice build of a historic funny car - I like the way that your red paint turned out. I have one of these kits to build - yours has given me some ideas of how to proceed. For braided line and fittings visit Detail Master's website. They really help capture the character of drag engines.

Good choice of topic, and the build has turned out nicely. If you want a semi-gloss finish on the hood with a decal you could use a glossy finish as usual to avoid silvering and then shoot a coat of satin clear over once the appropriate amount of drying time has passed.

I like the colour scheme with the baby blue bodywork and red wheels.

Dirty Sprint...
Jim Whalen replied to Terry Jessee's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Not the sort of build that I normally look at, but when I saw your name I was confident it would be well worth it. Nice build, it certainly captures the character of these kind of racing cars. -
Thanks for the reply Randy - I thought that you had used bare metal foil but asked in case it was something else (e.g. alclad or molotow). It is certainly a striking model of a C2 Corvette - as others have said, the colour scheme works really well.

A Tale of Two California Haulers

It is cool that you still have the Peterbilt from when you were young. It is interesting to see the differences in the two Peterbilts in the side-by-side photos. -
Very nice C2 Corvette! What did you use to do the chrome around the windows?
-
I suspect this is something a lot of us have on our list of build ideas - I certainly have. You have done a nice job with your collection - I like the pictures where they are all together, it is cool to look across the eight generations of the Corvette in one picture.

Before I put decals on a surface I polish the paint with polishing cloths, but I do not use any compounds or wax. When I apply the decals I make use of decal solvents and then put the parts in a food dehydrator. The next day I gently wipe them with a damp kitchen towel and put them back into the dehydrator. A day or two later I then clear them, or use wax if not putting clear over them (for certain effects, like an older car, or on clear parts). I haven't had any problems so far - this process was used on the two Corvettes pictured here.

I'd like to see a 930 as well. The Speedster would be interesting as well since it evokes memories of the 356 version. I have found one thing that I hadn't noticed before about the new Revell 911s - I was thinking about super-detailing the engine on one of mine and noticed the cylinder heads only represent 4 spark plugs rather than the 6 that they should.
-
Thanks for the compliment Chuck! It would be interesting to see the US and Euro versions next to each other. I have got a few of the Fujimi 911s as well - you're right about the variety offered, this is part of the reason I have some of them. I haven't built one but am expecting a decent level of detail but tricky assembly from what I have heard/read.

Hi Jim, here's a picture of the where the cuts need to be that I was talking about in the chassis. After the cuts were made I widened them so the chassis plan had room to flex, due to their position they aren't visible when the model is assembled. I plan to do the same to a convertible I am building at the moment in case it has the same problem. I also have a C6 that is ready for paint and the assembly looks similar on that kit so I am wondering if the same process will be required. The C5s are nice cars and the Revell kits look the part, so, if you like them I guess it is likely that you will build one again.

1/25 AMT Chevy Titan 90

Nice build - by stripping the chrome you have been able to tidy up the parts so the final result is a much neater model and looks more realistic than having lots of really shiny parts. -
Nice beetle! I have a Tamiya VW Beetle kit in my stash - I'll be very happy if it turns out looking as tidy as yours.
-
It is a Revell kit - they do several versions - sometimes they're boxed as Monogram kits. Here is a picture of one of the convertible kits they issued.

Nice '32 Tudor - the changes that you made have come together really well.

KW W900L 007 Edition
Jim Whalen replied to BigBad's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nice Kenworth - it's nice to see a newer version of the W900 - all the changes and aftermarket parts have worked well. -
Nice build of the C5 Corvette Jim. I found the chassis didn't fit well also, I cut some slits in the vertical sections on the side (it couldn't be seen once assembled so it wasn't a problem) and created some space so that the chassis had some flexibility. This process cured the stance problem. Here's a picture of mine - it's the same kit, just the commemorative edition version.

I thought that might be the case Chuck - it certainly opens up the painting options - I was pleased to see that the European boxing of the new C8 Corvette coupe kit is moulded in white (I hope the convertible C8 is as well). I've done the Targa version of the Revell 911 and have started on the coupe - here's my build of the Targa (and I didn't have any problems with the wheels!):

Beautiful model of a landmark Corvette - I really enjoyed looking at the pictures of your model and learning how you achieved the outcome. Well done!

Hi everyone - a heads up for the 911 fans among us - I didn't realise until I saw one of these on a well known auction site a few days ago that Revell have released a cabriolet version of their nice mid-eighties g-model kit. I have included a picture of the new parts tree that allows the cabriolet version to be built. The body coloured parts are moulded in white and are the same as the targa version (they have the targa rear window in the kit but not the roof panel or appropriate decals for the b-pillar) so if you have a targa kit and want to paint it a lighter colour without having to deal with the red plastic (the European version of targa kit has the body coloured pieces moulded in red - I don't know how the American version is provided) this kit may provide a solution.
