FPPMODELOS 1/24 scale resin kit of the Auto-Union C made by Fernando Pinto Portugal, of the 1937 Vanderbilt Cup Race winner. WIP: Auto Union C - Vanderbilt Cup 1937 Bought the book Auto Union V16 Supercharged a technical appraisal hoping there would be good photos or illustrations, but found the best reference on the web, lucky to have downloaded a cutaway before the site disappeared. The car was ground-breaking in many ways, mid engine, aerodynamics, limited slip differential, use of aluminum, Dr. Ferdinand Porsche designed the car that challenged Mercedes Benz before WW2. The book described the evolution during the program, Porsche opted for a low reving engine vs. exotic fuels used by Mercedes. Other than the Hindenburg, this is the only other vehicle with the Swastika that burned up American territory, the race organizers mandated only Audi have it (like it's hard to tell the difference between front engine and mid engine car?). Bernd Rosemeyer led most of the race and won. Must have been fun to watch American Indy cars compete with European Grand Prix cars, how cool would a match up today be? I knew the kit would be a challenge. The kit is 100% handmade, no 3D printing, no photo-etch (other kits of his have p-e). Besides fitment issues, I replaced many kit parts with scratch-built units. It's not my best work, but race cars back then were crude anyway. It's also surprisingly heavy! The laced wire (not photo-etched) wheels are outstanding, they come finished, no painting required. Today I was browsing what others are working on and I saw Johnt671's Ford and it made me want to dig out mine. I started this one about 15 years ago but I never finished it. I planned to keep it pretty much box stock except for wiring the engine, doing a wheel swap and making a drive shaft from aluminium tubing. I'm not building the trailer. Here she is so far... Years ago I chopped a '37 cab (my first ever chop) and it didn't quite turn out right. Then I planned to use the cab to build a rat truck with an inline 6, but used that engine for another build. Every few months I get the cab out and mock it up with various engines and spare parts, but nothing ever came of it because I didn't have any frames that would work very well. I'd shortened the bed, but as the glue dried the panels warped. It went back in the box. A couple days ago, inspired by the trucks of Rudy Rodriguez and Ian Loska, among others, I decided to just make a frame, and go from there. So far, it's coming together fairly quickly. Some notes: -AMT '27 Touring front wheels and tires -Monogram classic rear tires on Monogram '30 ford wire wheels out back -Ford 9" from AMT 57 Corvette street machine -front axle from AMT '29 Ford roadster, modified with some bolt detail, scribed lines on the spindles, and plastic axle stubs -disc brakes from the junk pile. Calloway corvette, maybe? -resin Buick Nailhead from The Parts Box in Australia. -AMT '34 Ford grille The plan is for a fairly extreme neo-traditional rod. At this point I'm undecided if it will get shiny paint or patina, or a combination of both.

i made a thread already but cant seem to find it so anyways heres my 37 Ford Pickup! has a 239 Flat Head V8 desided to leave it white with flat black fenders and bed thining about leaving it Flat bed what do you guys think? Black interior, Dual exhaust(Straight Pipes), going with 93 Cobra Rims wrapped with BFG's up front with Goodyear Eagles in the back! not done yet looking for one more rim (Can you help?) and some odds and ends Thanks for looking at this 37 Ford

Hey- I'm just now getting back to building model cars after about ten years. I thought someone might get a kick out of this story: Around 2002 I stopped at a yard sale and picked up this Revell '37 Ford Street Rod kit for 25 cents (I still have the round sticker that they wrote the price on). I think this kit was from 1987 or 88. It was so warped that you couldn't even sit the body over top of the chasis. I fixed it by placing the body in some very warm water, then placing the interior tub in, then placing it in cold water. That kinda "set" it to where it needed to be. It was sort of fun fixing that warp issue so I started imagining what a teenager in the 50's would have done to this car had it been an actual 1:1 car. To create this hot rod jalopy I scored the running boards with an exacto and removed them along with the front fenders. The radiator sat on a small piece of plastic attached to the front fenders so I trimmed that off and glued it in place. Then I cut the hood to fit over the radiator / grill. I gave the body a coat of red, the interior was painted suede and the engine blue (seemed like a good idea at the time). I'm a big fan of deuce coupes in any form, but the idea of other cars of that era being rodded is pretty interesting as well. When I was still going to shows, this model got some interesting looks and a few "hell yeah's" Looking at this 10 years later I realized that I needed to add the windshield wipers and paint the inside of the radiator.
