om617 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Hello. Anyone know what would be a good donor for a 1968 Dodge Coronet R/T? Mostly for chassis, interior and glass. How would the 68 AMT Road Runner be? Thanks Tommy
High octane Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Yes, that would be a good choice to use the Road Runner kit as a donor car.
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I'll eventually be using the AMT '70 Coronet parts for my '69 Coronet. Same parts as the '68 Roadrunner. Steve
om617 Posted July 1, 2015 Author Posted July 1, 2015 Thanks for the info guys. I think i`ll go for the 68 Road Runner for the more correct seats. I belive 70 have the high buckets?
om617 Posted July 1, 2015 Author Posted July 1, 2015 From the research i done so far it goes from buckets, bench and bench with armrest. No high back buckets for 1968.
b-body fan Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I have the 68 Roadrunner interior. Would swap for some pro streets tires or something if you're interested. Mike.

I would still be in short of glass, engine compartment and chassis so i`m hoping to find a complete kit.
wku88 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 The Dodge Super Bee is the performance version of a Coronet. The Road Runner was based on the Plymouth Satellite. Dashes are different, rear quarters are different, front end is different, not to mention the tail light panels between the Coronet, Super Bee, and R/T were all unique. You need to find a 68 Coronet annual (if there ever was one), or start with the '69 Monogram Super Bee to get closest to what you want.
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I'll be using the original '69 Coronet interior tub for mine. I'm just swapping out chassis & engine. Steve

They will set you back a little change if you can find a good one. Steve

I`m not building a Super Bee.
wku88 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 (edited) I understand. My point is to make a Coronet, another Dodge product would be easier to convert than the Plymouth Roadrunner, as was suggested. But, going back and reading again, the parts you need would work from the newer, and easier to get Road Runner. I guess you have a resin body? So, I guess I jumped the shark on that one! Sorry! b-body fan Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Hobby lobby sells the RR kit, at least here in Ohio. It's like 24 bucks. 18 or so with their coupon.
Snake45 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I think Modelhaus repops the MPC '68 Coronet. Or, if they don't, somebody does. I know I've seen them in resin.

Aha,yes i do have the resin body. I belive this body is based upon the MPC 68 R/T kit. It does not have the two air intakes like the car on my first post, but the bulge in the middle of the hood. Do you know if the 68 R/T shared the dash with the 68 Charger,or is this maby just another bogus story? I could not find any referance pictures to confirm it. Edit: Here is where i bought it http://stores.smhracing.com/mpc-68-coronet/ Edited July 2, 2015 by om617
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I think your best bet for the interior parts, as well as everything else for that matter, will be the AMT '70 Dodge Super Bee kit. I'm seeing very little difference between the '68 & '69 Coronet dash boards, though the steering wheels are different, & the dashboard in my original '69 Coronet kit & the '70 Super Bee kit are identical. Steve This is the '68. And the '69.
wku88 Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 From all the reference photos I found on Google, the 68 Coronet/R/T/ Super Bee is identical to the Satellite/RR/GTX. In 69, it looks like both the 68 dash, and the (Rallye?) dash carried over from the Charger was available. The latter had round gauges, and introduced the famous "Tic-Toc Tach" 68 RT: 68 RR: 69 RT and RR with Rallye(?) dash. This happens to be a Super Bee: 68 Charger dash appears to be the Rallye(?) dash that was installed in the 69 R?T, Super Bee, GTX, etc.: Hope this helps.
om617 Posted July 2, 2015 Author Posted July 2, 2015 (edited) Thank for the photos, very helpful. As seen on the first picture posted by Steve,i noticed one dash who got tachometer installed on the area where the clock is. Kinda cool feature. I`m very excited to start on this and even got original paint (Wich i hopefully will not screw up) who cost a fortune mixed on rattle can. The model does not have to be 100% replica, and it`s not going to be a Hemi. Thanks for the info so far to all of you. Edited July 2, 2015 by om617
om617 Posted July 8, 2015 Author Posted July 8, 2015 Here is a test with 70 Coronet tub from a build up i had. The chassis is Revell 68 Charger.
