Jantrix Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 I have a '40 Ford coupe build planned as a racer from the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge. Mud seems to be a requirement based on the pics I have seen. I've used real dirt and rough paint semi-successfully in the past but now I want to hit this out of the park. Whats the best way to do this. I'm sure the militrary modelers got some sort of trick for this.
Yenkocamaro Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 (edited) This is the best product I have found, to get the effect your looking for. Here is a pic of a barn find Camaro I did, including the trailer, using the Tamiya weathering kit. Not sure if this would work for your application, but I found a small spray bottle, and mixed the product with some water, and sprayed it on the car. crazyjim Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 How about waiting for a rainy day and then run through a mud puddle while holding the model close to the ground? LOL
JTalmage Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Testors brown bottle paint and a regular testors brush. wiped on liberally and wiped where needed. Also Tamiya weathering powder. For the clumpy stuff... not so sure. Maybe some bondo thats trying to harden? then crumble it and glue in place? just a thought.
Dave Van Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 For mud caking on things.......try acrylic matte medium mixed with paint to make a mud you can apply in any thickness.
Longbox55 Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 This was done using Woodland Scenics earth ground cover and their assorted earth tone acylics.
