For most of my junior high and high school years, the top part of my left hand was painted some wild color--candy red, metalflake green, and so forth. My Mom eventually gave up even asking me to try to wash it off before dinner. :D

Yup that was me too! I almost always had a primered thumb nail.

I have gotten very used to wearing gloves while at the bench, not just for paint sessions.  It keeps body oils from getting on the kit surfaces while I am working with them.  Occasionally I will super glue a glove finger to a piece, but it is much easier to remove that than a glue fingerprint.  I usually get the Harbor Freight 7 mil Nitrile gloves with their 20% coupon, which brings them down to less than $10 for 50 gloves.

And if you are buying gloves (latex or nitrile) that will be handling a model be sure to go with the non-powdered type otherwise there will be a trail of powder and you'll be cursing.

I have a paint stand for the body, and for smaller parts I tape them onto an old 1 foot ruler or some paint mixing sticks from my local Home Depot that are used when mixing a gallon of paint.
