The only things that gives the game away is the V on the hood and trunk, the FI emblems and twin tailpipes. I have for years wanted to build a tri-five the way they would have been sold here in Norway back in the day. That means a 4 door sedan (or 2 door as this) with I6, 3 speed manual and usually in singeltone color like black or some sober earth color (dark green or grey or dark blue or similar). Your mention of building a 4 door as that was the most common in your area. I think that was true for most. My father bought a new '56 210 4 door with the 6 cylinder and a 3 speed. No radio and black wall tires. My father was beyond frugal and thought of an automobile with less interest than any other home appliance. The 150 model in the 2 door or 4 door models were fairly common in the '50's for economic reasons at the time. There was always the Bel Airs around, but the 210 and 150 were more common. I would like to see you maybe get a Resin 4 door and make it like the more common edition of the time.
smellyfatdude
If you really want to do up a six banger version, I'd suggest the engine from an AMT ' 60 Fleetside kit. Drops in like it belongs there. Reposition the radiator, and you're good to go. I used one in my ' 57 Bel Air. Gorgeous build, btw! The six would look cool in model form, but I wouldn't want one in 1:1 form even for free. I had a Chevrolet Veraneio (kind of a Suburban) with a 261 six. The car looked great, but the sound always turned me down. 21 hours ago, bbowser said: Great model! My neighbor had a black & white 210 sedan very similar to this. 18 hours ago, Tom Geiger said: Nicely done model! Ken Kitchen --- Kitchen Table Resin makes the correct air cleaner. I bought a couple of them. If you do put a six in a '57, find reference photos. The radiator is positioned differently. I once owned a 1956 2 door sedan with a six and powerglide. 15 hours ago, Bill J said: What Tom said is correct, the radiator is in front of the radiator wall and the top hose inlet is in a different position also, on the six cylinder cars.. Thank you guys for the kind and usefull comments!! 10 hours ago, BigTallDad said: Very well done, especially the interior! Just some observations (not criticisms)... Did the kit have the rubber bullets in the front bumper molded in? The 150 Utility Sedan was the lowest price of all models, and it seems contradictory to have the optional bullets yet dog-dish hubcaps, blackwall tires, etc. If you decide to build another version with a 6-holer, be aware of the differences between the 1953 (and older) versions and the 1954 (and up) sixes. To me, the absolute easiest way to tell is by looking at the valve cover. Prior to 1954, the cover was held in place by using two studs that came up through the center; 1954 and newer valve covers were held in place by four bolts (two per side) on the bottom flange of the cover. The earlier comments regarding the location of the radiator are correct: for a V8, the radiator was mounted behind the radiator bracket; owing to the inline 6 being a longer engine, the radiator was mounted in front of the bracket. Thanks! Regarding the rubber bullets. They are optional. When I checked the model one of the bullets fell off when I touched it. I even managed to take a pic of the car without them. 2 hours ago, smellyfatdude said: If you really want to do up a six banger version, I'd suggest the engine from an AMT ' 60 Fleetside kit. Bill J
I actually have a correct 6 cylinder engine that came out of a gluebomb and I have all my parts painted for building another 150 with the 6. I have the white paint on the body and some Harbor Blue Chevy paint for it. I know that was not an optional paint choice but was probably special order-able to make one like that.I am planning on using a back seat from the Revell 57 2 door BelAir kit so that my next 150 has the optional back seat too. I wish they would have included one as an option in the 150 kit. Love that Revell kit, I have 2 built, one street Black Widow and one Buck Baker NASCAR version. Lizard Racing
The cool thin about this kit is all the different versions you can build. I have one as the Buck Baker version and just finished one as a Junior Stock drag racer (see drag racing forum).
