Where Did Testors Yellow and Orange Metal Flake Enamels Go To?

Recommended Posts

The local Hobby Lobby seems to stock this super glitter colors in their model section. If this is the same paint it would require a LOT of clear coat to cover. Looking at the cap on the spray can that is supposed to represent the product inside it is a very rough texture.

What happened to yellow and orange?

Now all they have is red, blue, green, purple and lime gold.

EDIT Maybe I am thinking of kandy yellow and orange over  a metallic.

Are you talking about enamel spray cans? They had Aluma Coupe Yellow and Roadstar Florida Orange- both were pearl enamel paints, but that Colors By Boyd line was discontinued.

I believe some of those colors have been relabelled and are integrated into the line of enamel spray and jar paints and can be found at hobby retailers that stock the entire line, with newer colors launched in their series of lacquers.

^^ an orange pearl as well

^^ and many other colors that may or may not be the same as the old "Colors By Boyd" line in bottles

Most "big box" stores that sell hobby paints, and many smaller hobby shops that don't carry the full line of Testors enamels don't seem to have these.

Testors is always discontinuing paints or changing their names, which gets annoying.

One they seem to have killed is Light Rust enamel #2177, in the 1/2 oz. bottle. That was not only good for painting fresh rust. Since it was a yellowish-orange, it was also a great base for many light wood colors. Like the cherry-wood used on early Ford Model T's and Speedsters.  If they replaced it with another enamel, I can't find it.

I have some left, but went looking for more. Discontinued at all the major online stores I checked.  On Amazon, one opportunist was trying to sell a bottle for $8.06.  No thanks!  It's still available for $3 to $4 on eBay. Though probably not for long.
