randyc Posted July 15, 2020 Share Posted July 15, 2020 I know this an old thread brought back - I'm glad it did as I haven't seen it before. There has always been a divide between plastic kit builders and diecast collectors/builders/modifiers. I used to feel that way myself. But as I get older, I'd rather modify/detail a diecast than go through the build process unless it's really interesting to me. And easy. This is my hobby and I want it to be relaxing and fun to me. There is a diecast section on here for those of us who want to share our diecasts and appreciate them without them getting lost or disparaged because it's "just a diecast". So if I can find a diecast that is reasonably detailed and can be made to look better if needed, I'll go that route. Even replacing some of my built plastics with diecasts. It's a shame that diecasts aren't given the respect they deserve, especially with the mods MRM made on his. Seems like at the point it was disassembled, it became a kit again. Just like someone restoring an old build or glue bomb. And this may be preaching to the choir at this point. These are beautiful builds that shouldn't be excluded from any sort of forum or contest. Geno Posted July 15, 2020 Share Posted July 15, 2020 (edited) I agree Randy, I disassemble and rebuild diecast quite frequently. No different than a gluebomb other than the material it's made from. My Dirty Mary Crazy Larry Charger is being built from a Testors diecast kit that actually has many more parts than most kits. Model building is model building. here's a couple of recent ones I've finished. The Falcon gasser was built from a scrap FM diecast, the Firebird is a Welly disassembled and completely redone with a full detail and PE .? Therefore, they do not see the difference between these. But here's 40-60 hours ... building and sharpening. And everyone passed by this model, but I believe that I have almost completed the main task of modeling - the model is perceived as a real car.
