Superpeterbilt Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 This is about to be going to a new home so I figured Id share it. I built this years ago, and just found it in a box during a clean up. This started as a Pete 351, that was actually a 358. During a botched re-build it turned into this. It has the wrong cab, wrong hood, and wrong suspension but it looks ok upside down. I have a still shot of the Duel truck at the bottom of the mountain and I wanted to reproduce it. I was starting to make a banged up trailer, and a mountainside but none of that was finished. Anywho, take a look before it goes into someone elses collection.
charlie8575 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Well done. I've been told that truck is still sitting...wherever that was. Charlie Larkin
Jim B Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Nice job. My only question is: if the frame is that badly damaged, wouldn't the cab be more "crushed"?
Superpeterbilt Posted July 2, 2014 Author Posted July 2, 2014 The movie trucks cab wasnt crushed. The frame is bent that way from the trailer still being attatched when it hit bottom. If you watch the crash, the trailer goes in its own direction after the truck hits, and bends the frame into a pretzel as it seperates. Ill try to find my pics.

Petetrucker07 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 (edited) Didnt that year pete have the square emblems, id sure like to have a set of those Edited July 2, 2014 by Petetrucker07
Superpeterbilt Posted July 2, 2014 Author Posted July 2, 2014 This truck had ovals. The older models had the squares. They can be found on ebay from time to time. I machine a whole bunch of aftermarket emblems, and thats one I plan on getting around to.
Old Buckaroo Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Darn, the clearance mirror on the cowl got broken off in the crash ! Nice work Terry .

Petetrucker07 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Maybe we will stop at chucks cafe and get her a tuna fish on rye, R Y E.
Superpeterbilt Posted July 2, 2014 Author Posted July 2, 2014 Maybe we will stop at chucks cafe and get her a tuna fish on rye, R Y E. Wasnt it Swiss cheese on rye? And an aspirin!
Petetrucker07 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Maybe, i just remember the R Y E part. They film A LOT of movies over there. Star trek and blazing saddles were filmed in the same spot.
Petetrucker07 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Its a great movie. Cant believe i dont have the dvd yet
Superpeterbilt Posted July 3, 2014 Author Posted July 3, 2014 I read yesterday on the IMDB page that the wreckage was scrapped after filming was wrapped. Idk how reliable that is. If anyone wants to look on google earth, I found out that the crash was at Agua Dulce Canyon on Indian Canyon Road.
Badluck 13 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Looks good!!!.......Forgot one thing though......the piece of flannel shirt caught on the fan on the dash
Superpeterbilt Posted July 3, 2014 Author Posted July 3, 2014 Looks good!!!.......Forgot one thing though......the piece of flannel shirt caught on the fan on the dash And the blood dripping from the steering wheel..... maybe the new owner will finish all of that. This whole diorama was going to take up so much room, and I dont have a lit of display space. I may build another "correct" one someday.
