ok i've read thru this whole topic and seen all the builds and questions.... i want to enter also... does it need to be a fresh build or can i bring an older project back to the bench? :D

Sure alsong as you'll be finished by the cut off.

So are the two 55's in ? Rule # 3 states 60 and newer ?

Yeah so what I changed my mind, I made the rules, I can break em or cham em.

ok i'm going to TRY to get this done. i have a lot of work to do in order to get it the way it needs to be, as it was one of the first models i did.

it's a 56 chevy stepside, discontinued model.

i will work on it pretty much every day and hope to get places, first step with sanding all the existing paint off and prepping for new paint.

here's what i have to start with, and consider me tentative.

ok but 2 things, that's the AMT '55 chevy, not '56 and you might wanna try bleach, pinesol, or brake fluid to get the painto off it'll bring it right to the bare plastic.

thank you for the advice on bleach, etc..

after looking online, you are correct with the year. what are the differences between the 55 and 56 stepside?

some progress:

i remember when building this truck a very long time ago, that the paint didn't like to stick to the body, so i tried something.

i took the back edge of an exacto and chipped away a little spot. the paint just chipped right off! so i decided to go about this route to remove the initial paint. there's still sanding to be done, so it's still in the works.

just a little status update.

got the cab and hood sanded down about 60% complete. I just need to move to finer grits until i get it just right and can start applying primer.

got pics of that, plus i'm seeking opinions on the stance:

let me know what you think on that.

after i get the bed disassembled, it'll be next on the sanding list, then re-assembled.

it looks like i may have to purchase another model kit just to get the windows, but that's ok since now that i have a lot more experience now than i did when i built this, that i'd prefer a clean set of windows, and i'm missing a tailgate.

i'm also contemplating getting some slicks for the rear tires, and tubbing it, etc.

it's not a new kit out of the box, and i've never done a restoration so i hope it ends up well.

If you want I could make you a smooth tailgate or a tailgate with a chevy emblem/ letters, just PM me, I'm always willing to help out when/ if I can.

I don't see anything against the rules about cross-breeding (if that's a term considered tolerable? lol) so i'm sure you can put a hemi in a chevy or whatever.

my ideas are pretty interesting with my build, as you will see in due time.

i know i like ur build but i was going to ask duke if i can go with the 55chevy nomad and turn it into a cameo ( if there aloud) lol its say's u can in the kit!!! and i was thinking i can do that once since it been a few years since i worked on it i just cut the body and left at that. so again if i can the nomad will have the 392 in it and some 42 willys bits to boot!!! so what you say duke plz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it would be alot easyer to do then buy a new kit.if anyone wants to add me to msn its ej69ice@hotmail.com i would love to chat with any modeler Edited by moparfan426

Hey Nick

Is it too late to jump in your street truck build ??? I think I can have one finished by the deadline. I saw you had let a couple 55's in how about a 53' Ford Extra Cab.

53ford016.jpg

Well Eric I'm gonna have to think about,

Sure!!!!!! that's gonna be sweet, do you cast those?

Thanks for letting me jump in late Nick. Yep I cast them,,,I mastered the cab a couple weeks ago. Working on a 65' Chevy Extra cab now. Wont have it done in time to build one of those for this build though.

Ok cool, I have a question though Eric, will you be doing a '65 chevy crew cab? Because that was a actual GM production for those trucks, my cousin had one up on his farm.

got any pics of them ? would love to know how much for one of your cabs ?

Hey Moparfan426, If you are talking about the 53' Ford Extra Cab they are 35.00 bucks,,comes witht he cab and floorpan/running boards.

If you are wanting pics of the 65' Extra cab, it will be a couple days on pics of it, I just started messing with it last night and its still just a couple cut up cabs, I will post some pics when I get it a bit futher along.

Hey Nick, I did not know they made a crew cab 65' Chevy,,,I will get on the net and try to find some pics of one, If its possible I will try one after the extra cab. The extra cab will for sure be a custom, I am making the back door line straigh and moving the orig. rear sloped edge of the door/glass back for the small side window of the extra cab. I Think.

I still see that NO ONE that orignally joined still has replyed except for diymirage. Come on, is it REALLY that hard to let dukefan69' know whats going on with your entry? I mean there was some great builds on here that where coming along great and it feels like now that the only participants are new guys, not the guys who decide to participate from the begining.

this truck has been heavy on my mind but like i said before...im swapmed

also if i would finish this on time i would only be breaking 4 out of 5 rules and i am going for a perfect score

(wildcart remember)

Hey like I told you Eelco you can go ahead and break the rules seeing your our rule breaker.
