landman Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I want to make a delivery truck out of this. I'll be using a flat bed/stake body of the same dimensions as the Ford C-600. I also plan to add the KFS Hiab 205 behind the cab. Is that crane too big for that truck? And, should I make it tandem or will single drive be sufficient?

Ive seen Ford C900 tandems and White 3000 tandems, so go for it. I would use a walking beam suspension. If you wanted it to be period correct, you could make the rear axle a dead axle. So, single drive, tandem axles. This was the case for many tandem conversions. P.S. Im sure somewhere in the U.S. there was a tree service, or some company with a stretched Dodge L700 with tandems and a crane. It is America, after all. Edited June 19, 2015 by Superpeterbilt

landman Posted June 21, 2015 Author Posted June 21, 2015 After much thought and reading all the responses here, I think it'll be single drive with a stretched frame of course to accommodate the crane and the flat deck.

I have the Crane base measurement and the deck measurement which I will scratch build to the dimensions of the Ford C-600's. What I need to know is the length of the overhang past the end of the frame on the Ford C-600.
landman Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 This may seem a dumb question but I have to ask: The L-700 obviously has hydraulic brakes. If I go tandem, will that require air brakes?
