Thanks, Mario, but there's not much to remember other than the car. ?
-
Yeah, man....I'm grabbing these Boyd's when I can. Thanks, Mario ?

All I had was these 2 photos my wifey took for me while we were traveling on route 17 in Gloucester county, VA a few years back. It was difficult for me to get a good look at it but I knew right away that I needed to build it in scale. My version isn't a true representation but inspired by the unusual style of this 1:1. I tried to use the elements I observed and faked the rest ?

Some of you may have seen this one on another forum several years ago and there's one shot in the RUST! Thread. This '30 coupe was inspired by the 1:1 I saw in a Coker Tire ad. My rendering is not an exact model but an attempt to capture the general look of the fantastic Hemi coupe pictured below. OKI wanted to cap off the carbs with those little snorkels but never got around to it. I must do that.....

I'm calling this one finished (sans battery). I tried to get photos in natural light (from inside my back door- ? it's cold today) in order to show off the Boyd's Orange Pearl paint. My photos are as good as they ever get ?. Sorry. The paint job was botched twice. Once on the front left fender which I managed to fix and the other one is the right door; that was sorta fixed but the shade is off so I'm not showing that! The main thing is the chop and how I was able to work the C pillar. The rest is pretty average but I got what I wanted out of it. I figured if I could chop this one successfully I would attempt a fastback '47 Chevy. Thanks for looking!

Thanks, TooOld and Grumpy...I appreciate it!

Thanks Bernard and Phil ?

Thanks for the Intel on that, Rick. Stude is top of my want list.

Naaah.....all the cans are different and many won't work. Now if there was a set of pistol grip spray things, I might be interested ?
-
That's a mighty fine chop! ?. Gotta stay tuned on this one.

I've been wanting this kit and almost ordered one from HL but then I read the note below saying "you may not receive...." I was wondering about the "salt" option. How is the chopped roof accomplished? In the photo above the body has it's stock height roof. Is a chopped roof included in the kit?

Thank you all for looking!

I'm really surprised by the interest in this build and the 1:1 inspiration that spawned it. I now see the flat roof and it could be that the chop isn't for looks but rather for the specific purpose of aerodynamics. OK, it probably is for looks but to look like it's a lakes car. Am I reading too much into it? A car built strictly for street use would show concern for esthetics and would look like mine. Truthfully, I had absolutely no clue.? And thanks for noticing the missing frame horns. That was intentional. two examples below. I really like this look and plan to use it more.

Maybe it wasn't obvious? I dunno. The look of the car in general was that of a weekend lakes/street racer/ kid working in a garage sort of thing. The push bar was just in case.l

Yup...I'm in too. Got a gasser waiting. Great stuff, Steve!

You and me both, Hector, you and me both! They went through the trouble of creating a new body but they couldn't come up with a stock engine for it? Unbelievable. Thanks for your comments!

Thanks, Dave, that's all I was trying to do. I see a car like that and if I have what I need on hand, I go for it. This one hit me real hard, I just love it. That coupe is bad to the bone! There are a few kits I keep buying because they are raw material for the type of cars I like. The Revell '32 5W is one of them. I just got the '29 and the '30 again...waiting for inspiration ?

I appreciate it, Bill, thank you.

Thanks, Rusty, I wish I could have really nailed it but my resources are limited so I try to get close if I can. Most of my stuff is like that. I won't spend a lot of money trying to nail some car just because I like it. I will if it's a car that means something to me, though, or for a special person....but that's when it becomes real work and gets expensive ?.

I had to use the '50 hub caps to cover my axle ends that poked through the holes in the wheels. I work with what I've got ? I would have preferred the chrome reverse if I could have used them. I had the ones from the '49 Merc but no tires that would fit. I don't know where those wheels came from. Thanks for your interest!

Thanks,Greg. The tubing would be a length of maybe 2 " pipe. It's there in case it won't start ?.... I think these guys may have had a use for it?

I was trying to be humorous, Ollie, but sometimes I just want a certain look that's rattling around in my head and voila!
-
Yeah Dave, I agree but it's just a thing with me....I can't leave well enough alone ?. Thanks for your praise ?

Ahhhh....no worries. I appreciate your help. ?
