  1. Thank you, Gents, I suspected it was the case of the 1:1 units. The kit situation is , of course, bleak. The RMCM route looks like the way. Thanks all!
  2. I see these headlights frequently on 1:1 rods and I wonder if anyone can identify them. Are they factory items or aftermarket? Have they ever been kitted? Thanks for your interest. ?
  3. Just got one of these kits (latest ver.) And will be following. I'm very interested in what can be done with it ?.
  4. After seeing this build and considering the idea behind it, I think I just might start building with fenders for a change ?. Great idea, John, and quite inspirational.
  5. Last night (wee hours) I was successful in navigating the Revell website (I had to guess which button to click to bring me to their service request page.) I sent the request around midnight so they were probably sitting at their desks when my email popped up. This morning I was elated to find an email in my in-box with a weird foreign looking address. Yaaaay! My windshield is on the way ! Wunderbar!
  6. Thank you, Richard, I tried to navigate the website but kept getting tangled up in 404s I can't make my email go out, Richard, is that address correct? Nevermind, I got it straight! Windshield frame is on the way!
  7. Why does this all not surprise me? These kits have quite a few issues and I'm swearing off of 'em. I haven't run into the above issue but it's probably out there waiting for me. I'm seeing lousy plating on my kits. ? And then there's that windshield thing.
  8. You may have been able to do a build-up on the edge with thick CA and zap it, layer after layer to slightly over-size and then shape it right away. Gotta be ready with your sanding block. It hardens quickly so it needs to be shaped after zapping. Adding a .005 strip as a backing may help too but use CA to attach it. Anyway, just my thoughts. I have used this method to build up hood edges using no additional filler, just the usual finishing materials.
  9. How did you go about getting the new windshield frame? I need one too ?.
  10. Ditto on what everybody else said, Mike, and I believe we all know the frustration you endured to get here. Sometimes you do everything right and it still gives you grief ?. I only discovered your workbench thread today and I'm curious as to the reason for the cracking phenomenon with that hood. I think you indicated it was not the bodywork below the paint. Did you ever find the reason? Congrats on a really nice 'vette!
  11. Congrats on a very cool acquisition! ? . I love this body style and owned an '84 (not a turbo, though) that I bought right off the showroom floor for 10k! It looks like that car is going to clean up nice. It doesn't look like a 36 year old car. Great find!
  12. It's probably stuck to the shelf ?
  13. I appreciate your help, Craig, I think I have to petition the overseer (administrator, moderator...) so I'm just gonna run this out the way it is so the few interested parties are not confused. Hopefully, I can finish up this thing without being put in "moderation " ??
  14. Thanks David, I'm sorta okay with the whole thing going south the way it did. I have a few roadsters to build anyway and I like the way this chassis looks. I'm being flexible ?. Do you know how I can change the title of my thread? I think I ? probably should.
  15. Yeah, I can build another chassis for the coupe. I have all that stuff. Maybe I'll use the kit engine this time. I just want to complete this and move on. ?. I really wanted the coupe buggy sprung anyway. With the '34 pickup parts I have now, I can do it. I suppose I should change the title of this thread.
  16. I dunno, Paul, this looks like the "future" standing in 1939- maybe the New York World's Fair. Preston Tucker saw this. He scratched his head and then put his hand to his chin....? The egg crate grille reminds me of a 46 Lincoln. The bumpers fall squarely in the late Deco Era when it started to move into the early "Jet Age". Certainty no later than 1949 I wonder how that V16 would look in a '29 roadster.....? What a fantastic project, Paul. I am inspired. I think I have a few airplane kits around here...and a "quick build" Chezoom kit that I don't know what to do with.
  17. three fine examples of channelled '28/'29 A roadsters
  18. Baaaahh.....a 1 hour job. Not my first. AMT shells are easier; no taper top to bottom, and no horizontal grille supports to balance out. I use thick CA for filler and added strength. The kit radiator on the back side holds it solid before filling and sanding. I'll paint that by hand after spraying the shell. Now I need to clean up the body for paint. Not sure what to do with the gas tank lines. They don't seem to be pronounced enough to survive the finishing process. I need to do some research. Maybe smooth 'em off, I dunno. A case could be made for welding and filling the seams like on a 1:1. Or I could scribe them and add a gas cap. ?. Fact is they just look like mold parting lines.
  19. My first hurdle was the firewall/floor junction. I cut a section from the kit firewall and grafted it to the floor. This gave me something to eventually mate my chrome diamond plate facade to. Some drum sanding ensued. Then I just whipped up another chrome firewall using Plastruct HO Guage material and BMF "ultra bright" chrome foil. ?. Next the deuce grille. I sectioned it down to the size of the kit '29 shell and used the kit radiator on the back side. The grille was ground down on both ends very gradually, checking often for close fit. The re-engineering of the floor and interior panels necessitates filling the circled areas
  20. Ok....did a little re-engineering today. There ain't much paint left in that little can but it might be enough to hit this roadster body with enough to do the job. This body is a '29 and is quite a bit narrower at the firewall, making the engine look immense. I like it ?. I zeed the floor to match the existing (coupe) frame and modified the interior panels in the wheel well area. The firewall was a little tricky as there was less room in the floor @ firewall for the big torqueflite but a little tweeking with the Dremel worked that out. I used a piece of the kit "Highboy" firewall and added it to the floor and created a foundation for my diamond plate facia. I sectioned the deuce shell so it didn't drag on the pavement. It's amazing what can be done with thick CA and accelerator ?. I'll add more pics later tonight but I wanted to get these up now.
  21. According to the generally accepted definition of "insanity" I should be institutionalized ?
  22. Yeah, me too, Mark. Not 20 minutes ago I sprayed the clear on it and totally screwed the pooch. This build is no longer a coupe but will be a roadster as soon as I recover from kicking myself in the ass. The coupe body will be drowned in the purple pond. I have a couple of roadster bodies that will drop right on to this chassis (which is essentially finished.) I'll be getting a body and interior ready in a few days. The '29 body won't accept the coupe interior because the coupe is a '30; a wider body. The interior will be similar to the coupe, though. Anyway, thanks for your interest.
  23. Before all this computerized nonsense, that's what you did, I guess. ?
