  1. Both built as is out of the box with kit decals ( I added the Buck Baker scripts to the 87 from my decal spares box).
  2. I don't know about you guys, but there are some kits that I just like. Can't really say why, but I just like them. The Badman is one such kit for me. Along with many of the other late 60's- to early 80's Monogram offerings. Same thing with Amt. Some kits are rather dispised, like the Modified Stocker Series, but I enjoy those too. They were a bit over the top and outlandish with the huge tires ( dirt cars did not look like that here in the Carolinas back in the 70's) but I love them anyway. Different strokes for different folks, and everybody be happy with whatever you do in the hobby.
  3. Is the engine that was in the Son of Ford version able to be sourced from other Monogram kits?
  4. One of the best (if not the best) model photographers was the late Jerry Sims, known as Luke57 or Mitchum on many forums. He always said get your stuff outside in the good old sunshine when taking pics, and that's what I do.
  5. That's about as good as model building can be. Great work.
  6. That's sharp!
  7. Any glue/cement over used will damage the plastic. Some of the best builders I know use tube glue with no problems. A little goes a long way. I use the old method of putting a little out of the tube on a piece of card stock or scrap plastic and apply it with a toothpick.
  8. Thanks guys! No problems, chassis was a good fit, just had to change the upper roll bars to better fit inside the top. Engine was a tight fit but it went in relatively easy.
  9. Amt kit body and engine , Amt Pontiac Grand Prix Nascar chassis. Window net made from muffler patch and r/c tape. Grille from foil found in a pack of Winstons. Paint is Testor's One Coat Laquer. More pics here: http://public.fotki....cuda-limited-s/
  10. Nice! And great backdrop for the photo too!
  11. I inquired a few yhears ago on various boards around the net about those old Revell 55-57 Chevies (may as well throw in the Revell '54 too). Some in the industry , IIRC, said the tooling details were soft in some areas and needed help. Also, the basic theme was that revell, at that time, deemed these kits "unbuildable" in today's market. I know that, back in the day, in addition to the many gassers/street rods that came from this kit, around here many were built into short track stock cars. Would I like to see it?...Yes, but with the new tooling there is no need for it. I would also cringe at the uproar that would come from the 'experts", I mean, brand new tools are ripped like tissue paper, a 40 plus year old tool wouldn't stand a chance.
  12. Thanks guys. Drew, no pics but the chassis is an Amt 2003 Monte Carlo Cup chassis build out of the box, I had to stretch it just a tad to get the wheelbase in line with the body.
  13. One of Gator's bodies, Amt Cup chassis, tires are Amt Goodyear polyglas street radials, window net made from muffler patch and masking tape, paint is Testor's one coat laquer "Root Beer" over Dupli-Color primer. Thanks for looking.
  14. Nice work.
  15. I looked over the kit I got today and noticed the following errors in relation to a real 1:1 Falcon: 1- Radio does not work 2- Radiator won't hold standard volume of water 3- Engine block won't hold a quart of motor oil, much less a full change 4- Heater does not work 5- Horn makes no sound 6- Dead Battery There are others......
  16. Revell body, slammer chassis.
  17. Tom Carter didn't bring problems on his site to this forum, that was done by someone else. He plainly states he would have responded in the other poster's thread had it not been locked. I think he should have the chance to at least respond when someone brings up his site somewhere else. Honestly, this whole "our forum is better than yours" attitude that is sweeping across the net (on all forums) is getting tiresome. I rarely post anywhere anymore except on the one forum I am a moderator on. As for "drama" , you can find it on ANY forum if you look for it. One final thought: If you check, most "boards" or forums are dominated by a handful of posters. That's everywhere. I think 95 percent of the hobby has tired of the forum BS that goes on everywhere and are choosing not to particpate anymore. I know I am.
  18. Now that one I'm writing down. As for seeing "flawed" work , why not pm or email the builder, in private, with your tips/advice...etc. This allows you to offer help to improve their skills while at the same time not embarrassing them in front of everybody else. If they listen, then you have made a good friend and helped someone be a better builder. If they turn a deaf ear, then you have the satisfaction of knowing you tried to help. As for shiny, I think it depends on what you want. If you want to duplicate the real 1:1 car, then by all means research it and get it as close to real as possible. If you want to build a nice model car, and enjoy the gloss/glaze, then by all means do that. There is a big difference between suggesting something to someone or talking down to them with an inflated ego, and we all can agree that stuff like that happens a lot. In many ways, the internet is hurting the hobby more than it helps.
  19. Ok. Here is my advice. Paint it to please yourself, not others. And have fun doing it.
  20. Whatever happened to: Step 1: Purchase model kit Step 2: Purchase glue, paint and other supplies Step 3: Built model how you want Step 4: Have fun (it's only a hobby) I have only 2 rules for building model cars: Rule 1: I don't care how, when, where or who builds any other model car Rule 2: I don't care what anyone, anywhere, at any time cares about what and how I build. You guys do remember this is a hobby and is supposed to be enjoyable, don't you?
  21. That's a small wooden base I made awhile back , and it has a balsa fence around 3 sides. I use it outside to take pics of my models. The trees behind the fence are real, they are in my neighbor's back yard. I sit the base on top of a camper I have for storage to shoot my pics. Thanks!
  22. Out of the box. Paint is Testor's Champagne Gold right from the little rattle can.

    ....

Nice work. Really good looking race cars.
  24. First time I ever put anything on a contest table. I just enjoyed participating. The CKM guys are great, they make everyone feel welcome (including kit bashing/curbside/rattle can spraying guys like me).
  25. Thanks for taking the pictures, I went off and left my camera at home yesterday. That was the first time I ever put any models in a contest ( I had no illusions my curbside stlye short track cars would win anything), but I enjoyed "participating". Thanks for including my cars .
