  1. Yes, his 1:1 ride is that color, and thanks for the kind words guys.
  2. Built this for a buddy at work who has a Lightning for his everyday ride. Nothing special, standard OOB with Testor's bright red rattle can paint. I enjoyed building this one, first time in awhile I put something together without roll bars or door numbers.
  3. That's a sharp one! What paint is that?
  4. does the tooling for these kits still exist? Any one know where they may be now?
  5. This is an old build up that took a tumble some years ago off the shelf. After letting the wrecked pile of parts sit in the box in the back of the closet for a long time, I finally put it back together. Nothing special, OOB with kit decals and a couple coats of future.
  6. Growing up a few miles from and now living in Kannapolis, N.C. afforded the oppurtunity to converse with and meet Dale Earnhardt, Sr. more than a few times over a period of years. He and Neil Bonnett used to fish in the private lake of the local country club ( where my cousin works) and several times I got to be there when they were putting in or coming back out, fish in hand. Neil Bonnett may have been the nicest person I ever met in my life, and absolutely the same in person as he was on TV. Well...maybe Harry Gant, another great fella. While millions know Dale as "The Intimidator", around here was just 'Dale", sometimes I would be eating a hot dog or hanburger at his mother's cafe and he would slip in and sat down for a burger himself. Also met Ernie Irvan before anyone outside of the hardcore short track racing world knew who he was. Joe Gibbs used to be a spotter for sons J.D. and Coy when they were racing Late Models, and I spoke to him several times as he was waiting in the spotter's stand for the previous race to finish before he had to turn on the radios ( never talked football with him, just racing). I also met Lee Holman and Larry Wallace of Holman Automotive and got to see inside of the place, I touched the engine in the 3rd place finishing GT-40 in the famous 1-2-3 Ford win that is also a famous racing photograph ( they were re-storing it for the current owner). I have an autographed framed poster of Shawna Robinson on my wall and well remember the day I got it, she gave much more than just a smile and nod when she was signing. And stashed somewhere I have a REAL Daisy Duke autographed poster of Catherine Bach she did for me at a Custom Car Show over in Charlotte a long time ago.
  7. I also had to take a few liberties with the rear wheels, I shaved off the axle stubs from the rim backs so that the inner tire sidewall is flush up against the chassis, that was just enough to those rear wheels under the wheel opening lip, and I used thin plastic rod for a rear axle instead of the kit supplied metal one. On this one , the Nascar headers in the kit would not fit under the car when I dropped the nose that far, I used the stock ones, and I left off the Nascar oil cooler on the oil pan, it would have been real close if it would have cleared the ground. It also may help to trim the glass some to get a better interior tub fit, I didn't do that on this one but the kit glass is really large compared to the window openings on the body. The big plus of this kit is the interior/roll cage....you can use that under just about anything and build a decent race car.
  8. I cut out the molded in inner fenders, and my only non box stock pieces are the round stock I ran from the firewall to the radiator bulkhead. I also drilled holes as high as I could above the stock locating ones for the wheel stubs/mounting pins, and used a piece of round stock for an axle. I'm going to edit the 100 percent box stock phrase out of my earlier post, I guess this is box stock plus:
  9. I got away from the leftovers long enough to finish this one, although it does need a coat of future. It's a 99 percent out of the box Amt Torino kit (stock/drag/Nascar kit, not the modified stocker) with Billy Gooche reproduction decals of the old Amt box art. Thanks to Dave Van for providing some much needed advice on lowering the front end.
  10. And a wrecked DW car is a bonus!!
  11. Mine's not as pretty as the one in the magizine but it's made the same way. Wood cutlery tray and some scrap balsa, it's square justs looks distorted in the angle of my picture:
  12. IMHO, we don't see enough of these classics anymore. Sharp and clean, looks great!
  13. Outstanding group of builds there!
  14. That's the only shot I have of it, it needs some repair work since this picture , then I can shoot some more on a sunny day.
  15. This is an older out of the box build of the second Amt version. I plan on building better version one day using the Monogram kit:
  16. Cool ride...and then some!
  17. Looks sharp! I see why scale slot car drag racing is becoming so popular!
  18. Andy, between you and Brian, now I have to build one of the two I have in my kit stash. Looks fantastic!
  19. OK, I'm posting to see if the name I added to my signature box is where it's supposed to be.
  20. Very nice detail work on a famous race car.
  21. Gives a new meaning to the term 'Draggin Wagon".
  22. Looks like you are off to a great start, those frames are not the easiet things to get right and yours look's spot on.
  23. Yep....I pass this tribute to him daily:
