Good lighting is important to me (I need to upgrade a little), a radio, and a pinch of tobacco.

Also on the Monte Carlo the blue on the bottom of the car is a decal. There is a thread I made for it a few posts down that shows most of the build. I didn't really explain how I did anything, but hopefully some pictures will help you out.

I sprayed the yellow first on both cars. Then I masked it off the best I could using body lines and the instructions as a reference. The 86 was the first model I've built in well over 10 years and was my first two tone paint job. The thin stripes of blue are decals however. You do get a little bit of leeway because the decals do cover the transition from yellow to blue. The blue is chose is not a perfect match to the decals but its not real noticeable unless your pretty close. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, and if I can do it anyone can.

Thanks I really appreciate it. Do you guys have any tips for chrome? The wheels were chrome, but I have them a light black wash. I don't really care for the chrome bumpers. Just looking for tips for the future. BMF?

Lol sometimes that would be nice. I think I may just do a simple shelf for now since I only have a couple cars. Another thought I had was to make a bookshelf type thing with two or three levels. I could put some of my NASCAR stuff on it until it fills up with models.

I should have said, but I need it to hang on the wall. I have a 4 year old boy and a 8 month old girl. Needless to say it needs to be up about 5' off the floor.

Thanks. It doesn't look too bad, the worst part is at the top. I think it warped it so it wouldn't go into place on the outside of the body. I had to glue it on inside the body.

Hey everyone I just started building models again after a long lay off. I completed my first two now, and have two more to do (for now, I'm about to buy another). I stuck the first two on the mantle, mostly to see how long the wife would be able to stand it. Eventually I'm going to need somewhere else to put them. I'm thinking of building some sort of shelf or something I can put them on and I'd like to see what you all have done and get some ideas. I'd like to build it myself instead if buying something. Oh yeah you may notice the windshield is a little cattywampus. My wife has been stripping and refinishing a dresser. Well she was pouring paint stripper through a funnel. Somebody set the funnel on my workbench after they were done. Some stripper leaked out on the windshield. It melted a hole through it. I had to cut some of it out. It warped it a little, but I was able to fill the hole with some window maker. I managed to salvage it, but its not pretty lol. Oh well I'm just glad it didn't get the body.

Hey guys I haven't been online in a while. I previously built the Dale Earnhardt 86 aero coupe. It was a combo kit that also came with an 81 Grand Prix. I finished it up yesterday evening. I didn't take nearly as many pics with this one as the first, but here it is. I'm pretty happy with it for the most part. Had a few paint issues, my fault for rushing the job a bit but overall it's ok. Thanks for looking, Joey

Thanks, and I hope to see yours soon. I haven't been online in a while, I've been busy and honestly a bit lazy lately and haven't spent much time building. I've been tinkering here and there but I may try to get my next one done soon. I'll start another thread for it.

I wish the 88 would have made a move at the end. It's kind of a let down when they're single file across the stripe but congrats to the 48.

X2. I think it's just become so rare that people forget that things like this happen. It's just kind of taken for granted but when cars are racing at 200mph 20ft away it's just a matter of time. I think the people who line the streets to watch rally racing are crazy. That is something I wouldn't do. Even after today, I'd go sit in those seats at Daytona tomorrow. I think if its your time than you have no control. It's just a risk you take going to these things. I hate to be so dark and gloomy but you could die in a wreck on the way to watch a race. Probably have a much greater chance of that than getting hit by a piece of a car. I remember when I was a kid I saw a man die of a heart attack at talladega. My dad had CPR and tried to save him but he was already gone. Not to take anything away from what happened but I guess my point is it doesn't matter what they change or try to do. Something will still happen and somebody will still get hurt.

I don't think it's just the new cars. Bobby Allison at Talladega in 1987, Geoff Bodine at Daytona in 2000, Carl Edwards at Talladega in 2009. I'm sure I'm leaving some out. It is scary but I'm not sure there is really anything that can be done about it. The only thing that would help in my opinion is to get rid of the lower level seats and have them all raised up. The speeds they run make it exciting in my opinion, I don't think it would make much difference whether they run 170mph or 200mph. That's just my opinion and I'm no engineer but it seems like once your over a certain speed 20-30mph doesn't mean much. I really hope all of the fans survive and make full recoveries. And thank god no drivers were hurt. Just my $.02.

I remember it being just a stock pickup with an inline 6. It seems like the picture of it on the box it was painted black. I could be way off, that was probably 1998. I think I said somewhere that this was my first model in 10 years but its probably really closer to 15. Time sure does fly.

The one I had wasn't Texaco, but it could have been an AMT. I think it was Revell though.

I told myself when I finished Dales cars I wanted to build the (I think revell) 1950 chevy 3100 pickup. I remember doing it as a kid. Ill get to it eventually. I just couldn't help myself when I was looking on eBay.
