I showed off a sneak peek at this one in the Jo-han models thread. Here it is now, with the foil done and the wash added to the panel lines. The paint is Duplicolor bright aqua teal, with Krylon Dual satin ivory on the roof. The interior is Duplicolor GM light blue, and some shade of white that I can't remember. This is just a quick mockup to see if I like my choice of wheels (Moebius ' 56 300). Approval is given.

Wow, I'm like . . . . . wow!

Thanks, Harry. I wonder if it's the fact that the Hudson has two mirrors that does it for you.

Thanks for the compliments! I don't believe I posted the Dukes Charger, but indeed all the rest were shared here. This won't get finished this year, but it's next. Finally have the paint polished and foil started on the ' 60 Desoto. Hopefully, I'll finish it up early next year.

of 2015. Magnificent only because I actually managed to finish this many, compared to 2014's dismal output of three. ' 75 Dodge Dart Sport ' 65 Ford Galaxie 500 MPC Dukes Charger ' 64 Dodge Polara ' 56 Chrysler 300B ' 61 Ford Galaxie Starliner ' 54 Hudson Hornet

These kits make great street machines, and you did it justice! I did mine with a big block.

Thanks for the comments. In regard to the wheels, yes there is a triangular depression there, not a hole. And I did indeed paint it red, though it didn't show up well outdoors. I've also since "frosted" the front turn signals, using a white gel pen. And Harry, if nothing else kits like this have one great thing going for them. The holes are already there, so you have to put the mirrors on.

A few more.

Another one, all done. Seemed to take me awhile, perhaps I was just savoring it. The build thread is here.

Moebius ' 54 Hornet update 10/31 Chassis finished
smellyfatdude replied to smellyfatdude's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Wow, long road to get to here. But, I don't make excuses for myself. Speed just is not and won't ever be one of my building traits. I'll work on the firewall next and putting the windows in. Hopefully soon! -
My late uncle John, whom I'll always remember quite fondly had a blue ' 79. Except for the color, this is his car. Thanks for the look back, that's a gorgeous replica!

I went to the lhs yesterday, and they had absolutely none of the new kits I've been waiting for. But, they had this. I've wanted one for awhile, and if you factor in shipping I couldn't have bought one online at this price. Everything is indeed there, and the decals are just fine.

Moebius ' 54 Hornet update 10/31 Chassis finished
smellyfatdude replied to smellyfatdude's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thank you, everyone. Sorry I build so slow, but I did manage to get the engine assembled, minus the exhaust pipe which I'll add later. Thank you Moebius, for fixing those air cleaner decals. A big improvement over the first run of ' 53 kits. The weather turned cold and wet about a week ago, but I did get some more of the Desoto painted before it did. The interior will be blue/white, and if I have to hand paint the rest, well I guess it's doable. -
Moebius ' 54 Hornet update 10/31 Chassis finished
smellyfatdude replied to smellyfatdude's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks again for the input. Haven't had much time to build anything, but I did get the door panels and dash finished. Like on the ' 53 kit, the trim on the interior panels just wasn't there, so once again I added Evergreen strips and foiled them. They didn't score a win with the location of the rear window cranks on this one, either. They're still a couple scale inches too high. But ehhh, it's a Moebius kit, right? I'd still tell anyone who'd never built one to go ahead and just do it. I've been trying to get some other projects painted while the weather is co-operating. I convinced myself I don't do enough builds in fun colors, so I painted this ' 66 Cutlass with Krylon Dual satin ivory over Testors one coat flaming orange, then clear coated with Rustoleum lacquer.. And the ' 60 Desoto, sprayed yesterday with the Krylon ivory over Duplicolor Bright Teal. Looks like a fun color, too! -

Thanks for the feedback, it's appreciated. Al, the side trim wasn't too bad, even for me and I'm half blind. You can see there actually is a fairly prominent ridge there along the trim, where you have to cut. My instinct is always to cut a little wide anyway, then go back and give the foil a closer trim if it's sticking out a little too far. But those side windows . . . . . aack! Try it with ultra bright chrome, that's what I used on the entire body. It's a lot thinner, tears easier, twists itself in to the shape of a curly french fry when you peel it off the sheet, and doesn't stick anywhere near as well. But ooohhh, that shine! -
I quite like how this has turned out so far. I hope you do too, 'cause I'm never foiling one of these Hornet coupes again! I'll do the ' 52 convertible, or maybe a resin hardtop, but I can live without ever having to squint that much again, quite happily. Duplicolor medium quasar blue over Tamiya TS-54 light metallic blue. Probably not a close factory match, but it's a nice, subtle effect with the slightly darker roof. So, I'm fine if it's a day two car. The interior pretty closely matches a couple cars I found reference pics of, and for that I used grey primer and Krylon Bahama Sea. The blue had too much gloss, so I brushed on a couple coats of Tamiya flat clear, then brushed some Testors dullcote on the grey portion of the seats. All the rest of the pieces are painted, and for those of you who've foiled one of these I think you'll agree, the hard part is done.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I do appreciate it. I like the wheels, too. Those are the only ones I considered using. Here's a shot of my two ' 61's, together.

Thanks! We had about two minutes of clear sky just now, which I took advantage of.

Resin build #2 for me. The under construction thread is here. No sunshine today, so just a few pics indoors. This makes a nice companion to my ' 61 Sunliner, and another welcome addition to my Galaxie collection.

Modelhaus resin ' 61 Galaxie Starliner Finished 08/16

A big thanks again to fordguy, with his help I got this one finshed. I'll get some outside shots whenever the sun returns. Doesn't look good for today, but we'll see. -
Modelhaus resin ' 61 Galaxie Starliner Finished 08/16
smellyfatdude replied to smellyfatdude's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks Steve, I'm inching forward. Got the exhaust, driveshaft, rear end and shocks mounted. I'll have to settle for crusing. No sense trying to race you, since I only have half the fuel capacity. -

smellyfatdude replied to smellyfatdude's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks, mm. The ' 60 chassis was the only that even came close to fitting, without a huge gap along the sides. Even so, this one required some careful bonding. Now that I know it sits right, I can leisurely glue on the exhaust, and attach the rear axle and shocks permanently. Then finish the underhood details, and stick all the bobbles on the outside. That's the plan, anyway. -
Modelhaus resin ' 61 Galaxie Starliner Finished 08/16
smellyfatdude replied to smellyfatdude's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well, the rear axle wouldn't have stayed there if I'd glued it on first. That much I do know, since I don't have the luxury of a vintage AMT chassis in this case. And yes, they are a luxury. Only one way you can "screw" those things up, and no guess work. When I have to measure, cut, saw, trim and heaven forbid superglue chassis parts for a build, that's the part of modeling that kinda scares me. When it actually works, it scares me even more. The gas tank stuck too far down, so I just used the bottom half of it. The rear axle blocks are the leftover drag parts from a Revell ' 62 Impala. Then I had to check how it sat. Okay, got that. -
Modelhaus resin ' 61 Galaxie Starliner Finished 08/16
smellyfatdude replied to smellyfatdude's topic in WIP: Model Cars
So here's the front and back end on, the fenders spears, and the body and chassis stuck together. I used some superglue, and it seem to be holding well. Now I'll add the exhaust, drive shaft, rear end, etc. and hopefully get it to sit just right, without any parts popping off! -
