Sweet! I always loved that car. --Dave

Wayne, I wouldn't kill myself trying to duplicate the Omni body, when Mike Garland can get you exactly what you need. This is the G&K body that Mike was referring to and is also available in 1/24th. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=94100&hl=omni --Dave

Hey guys, I was asked to build a Prototype Funny Car model for some new decals that will be coming out soon. Thing is, I haven't built a model in 10 years (I know, shame on me). At that time I was just getting into Lacquer paints and thought they were the greatest thing on earth. They were so easy to use in my airbrush and cleaned up easily. I always hated working with enamel paints, even when I was a kid building all my models back then. My airbrush hated them and to clean it was a pain in the ass. Now after wanting to get back into modeling, I hear that Lacquer paints are now illegal? Is this true? Also, I went to both my great Hobby shops and learn that they both are gone. Ugh and sad. So I made a trip to Hobby Lobby and found some paints I could use. Thing is, they had Lacquer primer and not any lacquer paints, mostly all enamel. Funny thing is, they don't have any enamel primer? Can I use the lacquer primer and then paint it with enamel paints? And what should I use for a clear coat? I am just looking for recommendations and if there are websites where I can purchase the right paints? I have a House of Colors paint chip book from Slixx, but I know they don't deal with them anymore. And any body painting advice will be greatly appreciated. I just feel like I am starting over. ALSO, I need to get some resin parts chromed. I used ChromeTech in the early 2000's and I see he is still in business. Are they still repayable or is there better places to get parts chromed? Any help will be great guys and thanks in advance. Also I am taking photos of the build process and will post them as I go. Thanks again, --Dave

Beautifully done! I plan on building the 1/16th version of this car, without the flames though. That is just plain sweet looking. Great job! --Dave -

My Favorite Pro Stock! That is sweet. I wish I had that on my shelf. --Dave -
Wheels are from Competition Resins: http://www.compresins.com/site/751597/product/CRC-014 Then I had them chromed but, I forget by who? I am sure someone here would know where to get them chromed. --Dave

Thanks guys! I like to build 'em as they raced with the right stance and parts. I wish I had time to build more. I have my own fantasy car ready for paint. The chassis and engine parts are all painted but not built. I have the decals all drawn up. It has been sitting in a box for 6 six years along with my Whit Bazemore's Smokin Joes Mustang. The body is all painted and decaled, but like my car, the Chassis and engine need to be built. I hope to get some built during the next year at some point. Really enjoying Chris's Army/Snake Vega build. --Dave

This took me about 16 years to complete. I stared with a David Peters Corvette resin body and grafted in the blower tunnel and rear wheel wells from the Bud King Tempo. The rear deck I grafted in from a John Force Cutlass. I added a shovel nose and lowered the front wheel wells with styrene and puttied it all together. I scratch built the Wheelie bar, spill plates and the parachute mounts, plus added the wiring and plumbing. This was my brothers Fantasy Funny Car that he and I designed in the mid 80's and that I built it for him for his 40th birthday. On the back of the spoiler he wanted it to read, "The One Who Dies with the Most Toys...WINS!"

Some of you over the years have probably have seen these before, but I thought I'd post them here for those that haven't seen 'em. I built the '77 & '78 Corvette's of Tom McEwen for my brother's 40th birthday a few years back. Here is the 1978 Silver Mongoo$e Corvette. Scratch built the spoiler, interior tin, wheelie bars and the correct Sarté fuel cell. Also created the correct Grille in Photoshop.

Larry Fullerton Mustang II Funny Car photos
Fun_E_Car replied to sflam123's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Steve, Here are the shots I have on file. (Sorry for the lack of photo credits). It looks like that when the Mustang II debut, the stripes seemed Black and Red. Later around '77 through '78, the car seemed to have a deep purple replace the black. Also on the later Mustang II body, there was a hemp over the rear wheel. Gary would know more about the different bodies and paint on the actual cars. When I ever get around to building mine, I am definitely going to build the purple version and be ambitious and ad the hump also. Always loved this version of the Trojan Horse.
