Nice. I dig the wheels. I've got about 20 models lined up to build since I haven't built in years and the new Camaro I hadn't even considered buying... until now that is. This one has inspired me to build a Baldwin Motion concept. Hmmmm. Great job. *edit* HA! Googled Baldwin Motion Camaro and see that they are in fact already making new Camaros in the Baldwin Motion facilities once again. So much for "concept."

van builds finished or wip

WIP AMT Rescue Van turned 70s Shag Wagon Custom. So far this is where I'm at. I'll post a few when finished also. -
AMT Rescue Van to 70s Custom Van

Finished up the dash and put a little shag carpet cover on it. Slapped a hippy foot pedal in the floor. I also gkued the shag carpet to the floor and got a start on the bed. I think I'm going to leave out the bench seat in the rear in favor of a larger minibar and maybe a mini fridge. Anyone know of a good source for scale beer/liqour/wine bottles? *edit* I have no idea why the first pic flipped upside down after attaching it to the post. Sorry. -
Staunton VA here. No clubs though.

AMT Rescue Van to 70s Custom Van

Already planning on a bed and a minibar. The rear tires have street tread. Check out the picture of just the wheels and tires and you can see the tread better. -
Building a 70s Street Van (started a build thread in the trucks and vans section below). Check it out.

AMT Rescue Van to 70s Custom Van

Got the basecoat sprayed on the body using Dupont Chromabase in a rattlecan. Color is 1969 General Motors "Frost Green Metallic." Also laid some shag carpet, aka: child's microfleese jacket. Still need to glue it all down. -

Got a little more done last night. Scratch built a steering column from styrene tubing. Scratch built the shift lever and signal lever from styrene rod. Heated a small piece to form a shift knob and painted it then topped it off with some flake nail polish from my little girl's stash haha. Got a few things in color, but it's really hard to see the exact shade of funky 70s green I'm using from these pics so I'll try to get some better ones soon. Using 1:1 auto paint for the body and undercarriage. Also did a little mock up to check the wheel/tire combo out. So far so good. I had to use some spacers inside the rear wheels to fill gap between the rim and hub. The suspension on this model is pretry lame so I just used some scrap styrene to do the rear lift and will scratch build some shocks for it. I tried some "Spaz Sticks" rattle can chrome on the steering wheel. It came out so so. Will try Alclad next time. The Testors interior tan spray bomb came out way too flat so I need to work on that a bit. -
Thanks. I will probably stick with 1:1 auto paints from here forward as that's the system I feel most comfortable with.

So I'm starting with the AMT 911 Rescue Van and since it was previously issued as a Dodge custom van and comes with a few of the custom interior pieces I've decided to build a 70s era custom out of it. Just a couple pictures to start with as I can't find my camer cord to download the other pics from the camera. I'm missing the driver's side exhaust manifold as well. #29L in the instructions. If anyone has one they can spare that would be great. If not, then I'll have to figure something else out. So far I've used a Detail Master pre-wired distributor and coil. Other than that the engine is box stock.

Finished it up. Not super detailed, but that was what I was going for. I'm pretty happy with the outcome. I know I could have done better, but it's simple and pleasing to the eye. Well my one good eye anyway. LOL!

Yep, that's actually how I did the last couple I built years ago. I sprayed them with leftover Dupont Chromabase (over a Nason sealer) then Dupont Chroma Clear over that. I'll post up a build on my Nova using that technique soon. I'm still trying to figure out the rear tires and it's making me angy, so I put it in the penalty box for a few days.

Just found this site. Tons of great hi res reference pics of different Chevys. Just click the word above each section and you will get lots of options to pick from. (ie. click "Camaro") above the two Camaro pictures because they actually have a lot more Camaros to pick from) http://www.superchevy.com/features/

Thanks for the great tips and advice. I totally agree on the interior being overly simple, but that was actually what I wanted to achieve on this one. Trying to keep it simple for my first model trying to get back in the swing of using my tools and such. On that note, that's probably how I shot myself in the foot. I've only used auto paints on 1:1 projects for a long time now, and am used to being able to let those acrylic auto paints tack up then on to the next coat. I haven't used the model paints in so long, I've forgotten everthing I once knew about them. I probably should have read a painting tips article or two first, and also shouldn't have tried the flake panel on my first trip back down the rabbit hole. I found this paint at the craft store today and love the color so much, I think I'll give it a go and just leave it a simple satin paint job with no graphics this go around. Anyone had any experience with this paint? Liquitex Professional Spray Paint http://www.liquitex.com/spraypaint/ It's the can on the far left of this picture.

So this is my first model in a really long time. Trying to get back into the swing of things after a REALLY long break is a little tough, but just as fun as ever. Wife started this kit around 2003 I think? Anyway she got as far as the motor painted and chassis painted. Installed the motor in the chassis, and that was all. Three kids and a few years later, I decided to try my hand at finishing this one up for her and figured it would be good experience anyway. Where I'm at so far. I primed with testors primer, then sprayed the body with some valspar indoor/outdoor satin purple. After about 6 hours dry time on the satin, I taped off the roof pannel for a flake/candy panel job. I sprayed testors silver base, then some pactra RC silver flake, then a super light coat of testors gloss clear coat to act as an intercoat clear. I let that dry for a couple hours. Here's where it all went horribly wrong. So I start taping off my design on the roof and go to reposition the tape. BANG! The whole roof pannel peels right off with the tape. The purple Valspar on the roof now looks super wet like I just sprayed it. I'm guessing the testors enamels reacted with the Valspar whatever, and actually melted the Valspar? Anyway. I've given it three thourough soaks in Easy Off and still haven't gotten all the Valspar off. Needless to say, I don't believe I will be using any more Valspar products for a good long while. It's now soaking in a Purple Power cleaner bath. I'll update as the build moves along. Feel free to comment away guys. Positive or Negative, I'm pretty thick skinned. This is the Valspar I used. Website says "Premium Enamel" I beg to differ. More like silly putty to me. Mockup Disaster Rest of it so far

The only local store I know of currently is Staunton Trains and Hobbies. They were forced to relocate a couple years ago. Great guy that runs it, Clarence. My favorite shop. http://stauntontrainshobbies.com/ I've never been a member of a modeling club and don't know anything about them or the shows and swaps, but it sounds cool.

@kitbasher No I haven't heard of them. Will look into it.

Thanks for the warm reception guys. Kitbasher, what part of VA? I'm from Staunton.
