Turned out very nice. I would have been tempted to add detailing but you captured the look of an original promo very well.

A question to those who built the Gunze Sangyo Daytona. When you assembled the chassis, how did you attach the different components? Epoxy, solder, super glue?
It was 30 years ago but I’m pretty sure I used epoxy for any non-plastic parts except photo-etch where I would usually use non fogging super glue.

Is CMA the company formed by Marshall Buck to make high end models and kits of classic cars still running?
Their website appears to have simply vanished! I could only find a few references to them on auctioneers sites when CMA made models were being sold on by individuals.
Last time I looked on their website was some time ago when it was up and running, and Marshall was developing a super detailed Ford GT40 multi medium kit in 1/12th scale at the time. I do not know whether it ever made it to market or not, but it looked as though it had the makings of being the very best GT40 scale model kit judging by the photos shown of a large number of parts made in development.
I wonder if the prolific output by MFH kits has had an effect on CMA's market as there did not appear to be any clash in subject matter as far as I could see?
I would like to see the GT40 kit as well but I think the Chinese put out kits at 1/10 the cost of what his would have been. Granted the CMA kit might be ten times better but I’m sure the quantity would be very limited. The website is still there and you could try emailing Mr. Buck or send him a $10,000 deposit and he might build one for you. ?

My bad. I did not realize he raced a 289 and 427 in the same color and number and mixed up the Facebook photos of the 289 with the Mecum auction site pictures of the 427. Some of the vintage pictures look colorized as they seem a little too perfect.

I recognize the tire on the left but am not sure which kits they were in but I can tell you they were probably in some Mustang kits (71-73 perhaps) as I have sets of a few of my builds.

Great job and probably a lot more work than laying down a glossy paint job with clear coat. Nicely done.

Thanks Rex, this is awesome! The kit just arrived today. About $130 at MegaHobby, which is a far cry from the original Trumpeter price that I think was near $300.
Yes that is a very good price.

All - any suggestions on a paint match for this color? A company called Magnifire released the 1/12 Trumpeter kit at a greatly reduced price and I'd prefer to do the #1 car. I see that Zero Paints has an exact match, but I think I'll need several bottles to do a big 'un like this!
It might be best to order a large spray can or bottles from a full size car car paint company. Arcadian blue is the correct color. I have seen many models of the 2nd place Lemans winner painted “Gulf” blue but that is incorrect.

Following this one as well. Gary McNutt had decals made for his rally version 66 coupe which started life as a diecast. I think he posted some WIP pictures a year or so ago. There are some 1/43 diecasts which are not bad. Here’s a 1/64 Greenlight of the Number 4 Group II car. Accuracy in that scale isn’t great but no surprise there for a mass produced item.

Very nice. The engine look like it has some characteristics of a 351 Cleveland. Is that the engine that came in the kit?

Welcome back from your time away from the hobby. Glad to hear you were able to connect with other builders. Your projects will be followed by many on this forum. Keep up the great work. Most wife’s or girlfriends do not understand our plastic obsession. ?
