SKIP..................I need ya to post a Fiat dude, mine is on a back burner @ the moment and many here are wanting one built. Rick
-
I have lost it..............I wanted to do a different Stutz Bear and did not want to use the same kit, so one was snagged off of eBay yesterday............you got it, a Hudson Miniature........I will of course use the Aurora for the detail pieces and wheels. But this will be a way in the future project......so I'll just keep ogling Harry's Rick

WOW.............now I do not feel so bad for the small bundle dropped for this kit. I suppose it's time to start acquiring parts. I do have a question, noticed a detail in the drawings, looks like some type of handle @ front end of vehicle at upper edge of hood? Do you know what be this? What is the item number from Micro-mark for chain/sprocket. Your thread will be looked @ many, many times for this project. Rick PS: I too can not wait to see what Harry does w/one of these Hudson Miniatures! Noticed, he teased by not saying what ones he had bought. There was a really good deal on a double set for $30.00 free ship, I bought one set and 2 were left........that would have made 4 kits in the deal.........could these be the ones?

You want to know what grabbed my attention about this car, the natural finish wheels........these things carried a ton of brass as a sports car. Then you have all the lights and fenders and this all adds up to weight. Now strip that bad boy down, get rid of what is not needed and too me that includes the weight of painted wheels. That's what grabbed my attention about #22 and I am still looking to build this one. I agree, gray is the color. Rick -

Cato, funny you should mention that..........many build the 30's Alfa as a Red, really, the color is a dark red brown, with age the color turns more brick red brown. Had the op to see one that was in a barn and was all original, and this color was no where near red or maroon, but a dark red brown. But again, color is a funny thing as perceived by one's eye. Now do understand, there are red Alfa's, but of the one's I have see in person, they all were restores w/new paint. Rick -

I have studied yours closely Frank, and is a very well thought out and cleanly built Mercer, and reps a racer as well. I also want to build the fender less version too. I found this 2nd version in yellow and pretty much will go w/it. I like the looks of the dark gray one, but am not sure I can pull that color off in this scale. However, the yellow one, that one I can do. The article said this car had been found in a warehouse near a race track and looked as if it had been forgot about for some time. But was clear in the fact that this was a racer. Thanks for posting your Mercer Frank, many can get a good feel of what is possible outside of a box stock version. Rick -

Frank, I wished I would find one in a barn, love the build and the finish is too much. When I was a tadpole, I remember that my Grandpa had parked under a shed a 1 1/2 ton Ford Model T, the left rear wheel, wood spokes of course would be removed and a large leather belt attached to a huge lumber saw blade that set in the middle of the rear platform of the truck. Seems this very vehicle was used to cut the lumber into planks that built the very house I spent many nights in. He would go on to use the truck to help make money doing just the same for others cutting lumber for whatever the customer needed the lumber cut for from trees cut down on their land! My Dad said ever so often, he would have to take the truck to the creek and park it in the water, and then soak the wood wheels to make them swell and tighten up. That ole truck sat there most of my life, but one day when I went to visit the ole home place, it was gone and to this very day, no ones knows what or who got that truck........oh yea, until he died, he kept that ole truck ticking like a clock. As for the color, I notice that the cowl looks to be a true black while I agree, the rest looks to be a very faded and oxidized black/dark gray. This is what I will shoot for anyway. Engine block bottom is being cleaned for assembly. The engine in this kit is very detailed and should build up into a nice rep of this power plant w/a few tweaks. Thanks for the tip Harry, much valued coming from you. Rick -

I want to build this using the Fuman 1913 Mercer Raceabout. I have already seen several built here and am looking to build a different version of this American pre-WW1 sportscar. I do have a question for my colleges..........in this photo of the subject I am looking to build! The color of the car, faded black or faded dark gray.........my ole eyes can not make it out. Rick

Did not get Old 16 from eBay.....bought from Gasoline Alley. Rick

Thanks, I knew about the white and thought gray was also a color for the rubber. .......but yellow? Rick

1911 Buick Model 14 "Buggyabout" FINISHED!
Pocherphile replied to Harry P.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
Harry, I am trying for one of these listed on eBay..........and I am so impressed with your build of this little jewel.......but I hate to admit what I am wanting this kit for. Want the lights, wheels and white tires f/a 1903 Caddy . I will build the kit @ a later date using the parts replaced from the Caddy kit. Rick -
Hope you get faster than the Entex Ford Stake truck I won on eBay and paid for, going on 3 weeks ago now! Seems the seller marked as shipped the next day after sale...........tracking shows was shipped much later..........and still yet no sign, nor does the tracking number show where it is @.........has not changed now for 2 weeks.........contacted seller, no reply and noticed today, kit listed again w/1 day ship ? Rick

Well, one has been snagged, or should I say it snagged me ..............of the Hudson kits I have purchased now, this one took a Big Bite! This brings the total of Hudson Miniature kits to 4 and I am still bidding on a few more to include a few Aurora kits. Seems my Hobby of late has been spending that hard earned green . Rick
-
I backed off of to purchase a Hudson Miniatures "Old 16"..............I paid a wad for it and could not swing both. I can not wait to see what you do with it. Rick
-
Frank, question...........the tires on your build, did you paint using Pactra Hot Rod Primer. Many years ago, I used this as a color for some tires w/good results. Rick
-
Hi Chris........what a intro to the Forum. Great attention to the details. Clean building style. Paint is neat and like the aftermarket items. I am impressed by the added details to a what has become a hard and expensive kit. Looking forward to more and welcome aboard. Rick

Just for you Cato, had everything packed military fashion back into the ctn, but I did un-pack to take this photo. This kit is tha bomb dude, the plastic parts are crisp and have great detail, other than the raditor being abit outta shape and 2 lamps missing, this kit looks like it was mfg'd yesterday. And by the way, those who build w/balsa knows that the stuff you get today is no where as good as the balsa you would get back when........like 1952, the balsa is alot more dense, tighter fibers......reason for the wood parts still being warp free. I will post some photos of the wood, did I mention the frame is made of mahogany......I will admitt, some of the parts will be replaced w/pear and apple just for the fact can be finished to a glass smooth w/no wood frizz. The coach will be built from the wood as comes in kit, and again, the couch on the real car was made of wood, and finished in natural wood. One of the interesting bits of info, leaf springs are mounted on top of frame to lower the CG, otherwise, the coach of the car would make it top heavy and prone to flipping onto it's side! No shocks per say, could be added if one desired. Rick PS: Looks like one of the wheel caps was replaced w/a brown one.

Hate too just keep going on about this little jewel, but boy, just went thru complete kit, the body is proto-typical, thats right, you build it just like it was on the original car and it was made of wood too. Everything is here except 2 body lamps and the radiator is a tad warped, but that can be scratch built. I have no idea how these have got by me for so long, but I know about them now. Date on plans was 3 years before I was born'd into this here world........ Rick

Yeppers, a set of front/rear white tires, to include a set of the PE leaf springs and brown leather..........forthwith in ordering for the FIAT from Model Motorcars.com. Only other part ordered is a PE SS Grill from Germany. That will pretty much be the aftermarket I will use on this build.......total f/all aftermarket $255.00....of course there is the finishing material ie: paint, that adds up too. Building a Pocher can add up fast, but I am not complaining..........last Pocher build I did, lets just say, wifey knows I paid a wad f/the kit........aftermarket was almost as much as well! Rick
