GM wants to show both cars in showrooms From the Detroit News Preliminary specifications * : Models: Malibu LS, LT, and LTZ Wheelbase: 112.3 inches Length: 191.8 inches Width: 70.3 inches Height: 57.1 inches Engines: 2.4L 4-cylinder; 3.6L V-6 Transmission: 6-speed automatic Source: Chevrolet 2007 Camry Models: Camry CE, LE, SE, XLE, Hybrid Wheelbase: 109.3 inches Length: 189.2 inches Width: 71.7 inches Height: 57.9 inches Engines: 2.4L 4-cylinder, V-6, hybrid, Transmission: 5-speed, 6-speed * The 2008 model specification are not available but are expected to be similar to the 2007 model. Source: Toyota Related Articles and Links Car buyers perusing their local Chevrolet showroom this fall may come upon a surprising find: a Toyota Camry. General Motors Corp. is mounting an in-your-face challenge to rival Toyota Motor Corp., with plans to encourage consumers to compare the Camry -- America's best-selling car for most of the last decade -- to the remodeled Chevy Malibu. GM is urging dealers to place Camrys in Chevy showrooms across the nation. The automaker also intends to go on the road with both sedans and encourage the public to take a ride in each. The made-over Malibu goes on sale this fall, and GM is counting on the dramatic redesign to boost its share of the crucial midsize sedan segment. "The fact is, when you look at the hard data, we have a product that is not only every bit as competitive, but also beats out the competition," GM sales Chief Mark LaNeve said Wednesday. "We want people to have the experience of both vehicles. And we think that can help us." GM's strategy is similar to Ford Motor Co.'s effort last year to get on more sedan buyers' shopping lists with Fusion Challenge ads. Inspired by the successful Pepsi Challenge ads of the 1970s, they featured actual consumers test-driving the Fusion as well as the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in a face-off supervised by Car & Driver magazine. The U.S. automakers are struggling now to rebuild their presence in the cutthroat midsize car market, dominated in recent years by the Japanese. Chrysler demonstrated how well the Americans can do in the passenger car segment with the huge success of the Chrysler 300 sedan launched in 2004. But the competition has grown even fierce because of the gradual decline in the segment, which once accounted for more than 4 million car sales a year, but has settled at around 3 million. Toyota has added a hybrid to the Camry family of sedans, launched in March of 2006, while Honda Motor Co. is preparing to roll out a sportier Accord sedan later this year. The Accord is the second-best-selling midsize car in the U.S. market. With the new Malibu, GM is confident it can take on the Camry, which has established itself as a reference point for buyers. "For customers who shopped a Malibu, Camry was the No. 1 cross-shopping vehicle," said Mark McCready, vice president of market planning and pricing at Carsdirect.com, an online new and used car retailer. By contrast, "Malibu is not on the radar of people considering a Camry. In fact, nearly all the vehicles Camry shoppers are also considering are imports." Toyota spokesman Xavier Dominicis said there have been many comparison ads that feature the Camry. "We're confident in our product," he said. They have another pre-painted (body only) in blue & white plus one that is not pre painted. I have them all plus the newer version of the Delcia, it's called the Space Gear. They are cool people to work with, try them out! Space Gear Prepainted Blue Star Wagon Non-Painted Kit

Hello all! Rdean58 here

While I generally try not to trash a model kit because the "fender line is 1/64th of an inch too high" I will talk about problem areas on kits. IMHO, sink marks, warpage, flash, etc. tend to get mentioned. It's nice to know that I can point out (what I perceive) as flaws in a kit without being told that by doing so I'm causing the industry to "go away." Hey, if a kit is good, I'll sing praise to it (Fujimi 599) if it's a warped, flash filled, ill fitting mess I'll tell that also. (Those kits get put back in the box for "later." I'd much rather spend my time putting someting together than cleaning up manfacturing "problems." -
Just a little hint of what I've been doing since NNL Mid-Atlantic. Real pictures of these models in progress will be coming sometime soon. First up, a Daihatsu Move CX by Fujimi. This one is painted Tamiya Silver leaf with Tamiya clear. I have the interior (flat black with semi-gloss black seats & dash) completed, just need to detail paint the trim & put the lights on it. Second in the list of current builds, Tamiya Toyota Bb. This one is painted Testors Auto Lacquer light gray metallic (looks like a silver to me.) Lots left to do to this one. Third is a Nissan Elgrand X by Fujimi. I have this one painted Testors Auto lacquer Platium Silver with Testors auto lacquer clear. I'll probably do another black interior on this one as well. Fourth on the desk right now is the Tamiya Honda Fit. This is painted Tamiya light gun metal without a clear coat. Interior is sky gray and the darker plastic gray. Still left to do, windows and finish the interior. Last one I'm working on right now, is this Mitsubishi Delica Starwagen by Aoshima. This was pre-painted metalic gray & silver. Interior on this one will be light & medium grey. I have the chassie completed on this one just need to do the interior & final assembly. Thanks for looking

Color is Testors Auto Lacquer Italian Red with testors Auto Lacquer Ultra Gloss Clear. Crazy Modeler scripts and black BMF completed the kit. No, sorry I don't have an extra 575M emblem. If you do a lot of Ferraris though you can pick up the Crazy Modeler Ferrari Emblems for $8.50 from Hiroboy in England. Here is a picture of the one I bought. (Even though they show up as black, they are really chrome.) There are pretty fast on shipping and decent on shipping charge. A link to the web site http://www.hiroboy.com/catalog/

Hello all! Rdean58 here

I often wondered why the HHMB had been thin lately. Now I know. Seems like a lot of good people have left HHMB and came here. It's really sad but that MB seems to be full of mine fields just waiting for ya. So I can post links to my website here huh? Without fear of it being pulled because I "advertise other online shops." Cool Glad I came here finally! -
Hello all, here is my latest completed build, a Fujimi Ferrari 575M that I completed the day of NNL Mid-Atlantic. Color is my Standard Testors Auto Lacquer Italian Red with testors Auto Lacquer Ultra Gloss Clear. Crazy Modeler scripts and black BMF completed the kit. Interior is basic semi gloss black & charcoal flocking for the carpet. I should take some better pics of this one. Enjoy Thanks for looking

What: Curbside Kit built between 4/18/2007 & 5/7/2007. After Market Items Used: Crazy Modeler emblems. Highs: Excellent Fit of parts. Ease of Assembly. Postive mounting tabs for windows. Pop together rear taillights. Photo-Etch Grille Emblem. Separate headliner. Lows: Some simplification of parts, some of the Decals, Cost Cost: $21.20 for the kit, 14.56 shipping = $35.76 Bottom Line: Very Highly recommended. This is a Must Have for all Ferrari and Sports car Fans. This was the kit I was waiting for! When I discovered that Fujimi was releasing a 599 kit, I decided to bypass the Revell of Germany release and wait for this one. I bought this kit directly from Japan at one of my favorite hobby shops and the price listed is what the exchange rate was at the time of purchase. It could be different by a few cents high or low today. Initial Impressions If you have built any of the late series Fujimi Ferrari kits (from the 550 on) then the parts layout should be familiar to you. The kit comes molded in a flat Red (interior), glossy red (body), black (running gear, frame, some miscellaneous components) shiny chrome (grill, headlights, exhaust tips, mufflers), mat chrome (wheels), red taillights, amber turn signals and side marker lights, and clear. Suspension/Frame Fujimi has redone the front suspension system a bit by removing the small screws that were used to attach the upper A arms to the lower A arms. A couple of drops of glue holds this assembly in place now. Two spindles, a tie rod, and 2 posive placement front disc brakes compose the complete front suspension. I call the front disc's positive placement because they are molded in such a way as to make it very obvious if you have the parts reversed. Rear suspension is very simple. The rear disc brake fits into a mounting tab on the wheel wells which in turn fit easily on the rear section by the use of 2 tabs. While I at first thought this was an iffy way of positioning the rear wheels, it works great with no slack after assembly. The chrome mufflers fit in recesses at the rear of the frame and are a bit snug to get positioned properly. After the mufflers are in place the 4 chrome exhaust tips are then glued on. The twin lights at the rear of the frame section were painted clear red then backed with BMF. I did not paint the exhaust tips black as they came dark enough from the factory. That is your basic rolling gear assembly. Very easy, very few parts, all postive placement and no slack in assembly. Interior Fujimi did an excellent job on the interior of this kit. There are decals (of course) for the instruments, center "Ferrari" emblem, and "599" dash insigna. The steering wheel, column, paddle shifters, emergency brake handle, door panels, and passenger grab bar are separate pieces. The kits instructions for painting the interior are very helpful and I used internet pics to fill out my knowledge of how the interior was supposed to look. Unfortunately I do not have any interior pics to show you. Just let me say that the interior was trama free in assembly. I used a Ferrari emblem from Crazy Modeler for the center dash emblem and flocked the floor in dark brown while painting the rest of the interior a combination of semi gloss black & Tamiya Wooden Deck Tan. Body The body is a work of art in my humble opinion. While I have not seen a real life 599, from all the pictures I have seen on the internet, Fujimi has captured the essence of this body in 1/24 scale form. All of the scoop openings are open and have plastic open grilles that fit from the inside. With my particular copy I misplaced the grilles for the lower rear quarter panel scoops so filled these in with black mesh from the Tamiya 360 kit. The body has raised placement sections for the side decals and the front & rear decal placements. I personally do not like the look of the silver "Ferrari" decals & emblem so I replaced them with chrome stick on emblems from Crazy Modeler. The rear "flying wings" that fit over the rear window are separate pieces and fit into slots cut along the top of the rear fenders. Cleanup of the body included removing some faint mold lines along the tops of the front & rear fenders and along the leading & trailing edges of the fenders. 15 to 20 minutes of light sanding got the body ready for painting. Color is Testors Auto Lacquer Italian Red & clear coat over native red plastic body. Assembly Kit just about fell together. Some places to look out for are the front wheel wells on the frame. These require the body to be slighly pulled away in order for the frame to slide easily inside. The instructions call for the seperate lower quarter panels to be assembled before the body is attached to the frame but I elected to put them on after. I felt it was easier to position the body without having to worry about those pieces coming loose. There are 2 tabs at the rear of the frame that fit inside corresponding holes in the body. The front section of the frame fits snugly and flush with the body. Closing Thoughts While the price is a bit high, especially for a curbside kit. What you get for the price are excellent tires/wheels, ease of assembly, and the right "look" to the finished piece. An exta special bonus is the photo-etched emblem for the front grille. I liked this kit so much I got another one just in case they get hard to come by. While I know that finding Fujimi kits in the States is difficult, if you want a 599 this is just about a must have kit. Bonus Picture! Thanks for Reading!

Just thought I'd try this place out since I was invited by a couple of regulars. I've been getting into trouble  over at the Hobby Heaven Message Board recently and decided, I really did not need that much drama in my life. I mean, after all, I have all the drama I want, I'm married Anyway, I hope to have fun here talking about "tabo" subjects like Fujimi Ferraris, Aoshima Skylines, and anything Tamiya. While I still have a ton of Revell & AMT kits, I have found that building the curbside kits from Japan is really fun and fast (usually) so I have been building some strange subjects (Bb, Fit, Sumbar, etc.). I'll be posting pics (as soon as I figure out how ) of my current builds. Talk to you all later and thanks for the invite!
