  1. Thanks, Frank. The seam scraper works very nicely, but is too big to get all the places I need to get. Mr. Exacto will be kept busy. I did a test on a section of the body seam. First the seam scraper, then sanding sticks, then Novus scratch remover. Worked a treat...looks perfectly smooth. Went pretty quickly, too.
  2. You can expect a visit from our enforcement officer...
  3. I'm sure you know you are required by law to take and post photos of the interior of your model before hiding it under a roof.
  4. They have it on sale for $12.50. http://www.joann.com/search?q=embossing%20powders#prefn1=brand&prefn2=prod_type&q=embossing%20powders&prefv2=Product&prefv1=Hampton%20Art This forum is going to break my wallet. It won't take much.
  5. Thanks for the great info. I love the internet. That seam scraper looks handy...I just ordered one from Amazon.com. I'll hit Home Depot or the hobby store for sandpaper.
  6. Thats a good suggestion, Bill. I ordered sanding/polishing sticks (should arrive today) and a variety of rifflers, but I'm pretty sure I'll need sandpaper as well for getting into the tighter spaces. Got a recommendation on what grades of sandpaper to use?
  7. Anyone here a member of the Scale Auto Builders Association in Portland, Oregon?
  8. Interesting. Annoying, but interesting. Thanks all for the help. Once I get started on this project I'll post some pics of my progress.
  9. Thanks for the warm welcome. For me the most enjoyable part of any hobby is the people.
  10. Thanks, Andy. The photos I've seen don't show any such seam lines. Looks like I get lots of filing and sanding practice. Oh well...you deal with what you find when you open the box. I think Forrest Gump said that.
  11. This is my first question here (see my post in the Introduce Yourself section). My first project will be the Monogram 1953 Corvette. Kit number seems to be 2291. The body has some lines on it that I'm guessing are molding lines that need to be removed, but I thought I'd check with the folks here and make sure before I do try removing them. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
  12. Thanks. I only paid about $12 for the '53 Corvette...not a huge amount to risk. If that one doesn't go well I'll pick up something else inexpensive to ruin. I'm optimistic...I have way more patience than I did when I was 10. Almost makes up for the loss of hair and good looks.
  13. Hello all. I enjoyed putting together model cars as a kid growing up in NYC. Fifty years later I'm eager to get back into it. Things don't seem to have changed much, with the exception of the tons of info available on the internet. I've spent many hours watching videos on Youtube and reading forum posts and cruising hobby web sites. Great stuff! Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to upload tutorials. I haven't glued two parts together yet and I already know way more than I used to. I put together a supply list and a projects list. Most of the supplies I've ordered from various web sites and I'm still waiting for most of it to arrive. I've set up a little work station in my man cave and should be ready to start ruining kits in a week or two. I've so far bought the folllowing kits on line, most because they were a particularly good deal and/or hard to find: 1953 Studebaker Starliner Coupe AMT/ERTL 1958 T-Bird Monogram 1953 Corvette, Monogram 1963 Chrysler Turbine Car, Jo-Han 1963 Avanti Reggie Jackson model AMT My project list is quite long, with a heavy emphasis on American cars 1950's and 1960's (how unusual). That's enough for now. I'm really excited about getting back into modeling.
