Thanks, I really like to put side windows on a car model so it looks it can be properly left on the curbside.

Thank you Kevin! I actually didn`t really fix the rear bumper, I just shaved the body rear panel and used bondo to make it to fit the bumper.

1976 Chevy Caprice 4-door Hardtop Sport Sedan conversion
Cosmo_Song replied to Cosmo_Song's topic in Model Cars
Thank you for sharing your experience, Steve. I like to build model cars based on my childhood memories, that`s why I`m more into cars in the 70`s. I grew up in China in 1980`s and we had a few American tv show and movies on screen, like <Hunter> and <Superman>. I remember there were a lot of the full-size cars in those media which were from the 1970s and were not in a good condition. But those images were always a big inspiration for me in that time era and I really think those last generation full-size cars during malaise era are really cool! Especially when they turn into curbside beaters and lose all the hubcaps and then I can feel the authenticity. -
1976 Chevy Caprice 4-door Hardtop Sport Sedan conversion

Thank you very much. I found the correct fonts and sticker images online, and then I used Adobe illustrator for the graphic design and print it out with tin can glued to the back. -
Thank you, yes I still remember those crappy orange plastic parts and huge flashes everywhere, not to mention those incorrect wheel position. It took me quite a while to clean it up but I`m happy with what turns out in the end

Thanks everyone for the replies

Thanks, I was using thick aluminum foil (from the kitchen baking supply). I covered the foil to the original plastic part and carefully shaped it and took it off. And then I just twisted the foil to the desired look of damage and I used epoxy on the back side to secure the shape of the foil. The whole process took me like 15 minutes or could be less

I just finished a conversion project that started from a MPC `76 Chevy Caprice 2-door. For some reason the body part was not molded well when I received the model and I think it`s beyond repairable. So I decieded to chop the damaged A-pillar and fender section and replace it with epoxy-bounded Foil material and gave it a damaged appearance. I always have a fetish for the big, full-size american 4 door sedan in the 60`s and 70`s. So I converted the MPC 2-door coupe version to a 4-door sedan. I cut the B-pillar and fill the quarter window because I prefer a more traditional and thicker C-pillar which is different from the actual `76 Caprice sedan, but personally I prefer the look. I also rescribed the door panel lines and trunk. I used sterene sheet to reform the roof section and I sanded off the side trim to give the Caprice a more "base model" appearance. Thanks for viewing! Please take a look at my project: -
Thanks everyone for the comments. Sorry I`ve been out of this for a while. Just finished school and started working which got me kinda busy. Here are some updates, I decided to go with the metallic copper color and no vinyl top to give it a low-priced, low trim level curbside model.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! Anyone have some color suggestions? Personally I think this copper color can represent the 1970`s trend a lot.

So here`s the progress as 11/7. I applied TAMIYA primer, sanded the intersection between foil fender and plastic body. I also washed the door panel lines and details on grille and bumper. I used brown oil paint to wash the whitewall tire and rim so they won`t look that "fresh". Any color suggestions? I`m trying to do a very "70`s" look so I might go with this copper color.

Thank you sir! I would consider to do an "accurate" and stock version for the `76 hardtop 4door sedan with the open opera window and side mouldings. I`ve never done 2 piece molding tho I think I need to try molding something with silicone first.

Thank you, I like your `74 Coupe conversion a lot too! I was looking for MPC Caprice/Impala 1971-1975 but it seems there`s no way I could afford the price for them on ebay right now. I really hope RC2/AMT/MPC could re-issue these big 70`s tanks someday in the future. BTW I really like these big `73 in the 007 movie.

Hi guys I`m Cosmo and this is my first post in here. I`m working on a conversion project that started from a MPC `76 Chevy Caprice 2-door coupe version.
