  1. Hey "PLUM" Nice to see the Ol' Girl done. Beautiful color, and the strut's look like they work great. Congrats on a great job - dave
  2. Hey all I need to step it up and get a new digital camera that will take excellant "Very Close" ups, for just a few inches away, and be very clear. Something around 10 mg pixels or so. Any help much appreciated - dave
  3. I got to see this at our last club meeting, and it is SOOOO CUUUUUL. The pic's here don't do it justice. Dave's a really good builder - now if you'd just finish somethin'
  4. Hey Cranky You're startin to have as much fun as I do. Be careful, it's addicting
  5. Forgot to add them 'till I saw the reply
  6. Hey Zuk Here's the '55 with some '05 'Vette wheels. Everything inside, under the hood, and under the car will be from the '05 'Vette, with the '55 shell covering everything. (Sorry about pic's - Used old camera) Later - dave
  7. Thanks for sharing that, and sorry it didn't work out . I had heard similar stories, over the years, that's why the 'Water-based chrome sysyem" I invested in. Thanks again for the WARNING - dave
  8. Hey Raul The Chrysler Imperial Phaeton in the pic's here, with the scratch-built phantom 12 cylinder Hemi, with an 18-71 blower, and full scratch-built leather interior, is the car that preceeded the Hollywood. After winning awards all over the Northwest with this, and gettig a full page spread in SAE, the guy's in the club sorta "challanged me" by asking what I was going to do to top it. All my life in everything I have done, I have alway's challanged myself to "Raise the Bar" and find my limit's, to see where I ended , so to speak. I have found an old saying to be true - "LIMITATION IS THE CREATION OF THE MIND". When we pursue excellance and perfection, we never achieve it, but each time we get closer, if we're not willing to "Compromise" the talant's and gift's our Creator has given us. When I saw the "REAL HOLLYWOOD" at a car show, I knew this was the next project, but I wanted to do something different that I had never seen before. Like the Chrysler, I knew somehow I was going to "Step It Up",and I liked the chassis being displayed aside from the car, but wanted a completed chassis under the car too. I decided to try 'Challanging Myself" to build two identical chassis's, with a scratch-built driveline and frame. It took quite a while to gather two of everything I needed. The stack of parts I collected to build the car became "MASSIVE", to say the least, 2000, many having to be scratch-built. The undertaking became huge, but in my career, I was used to such large projects and thrived on it. The Hollywood pushed me to "New Limit's" at the time, and "Way out of my Comfort Zone" in several area's of my building, but have become "Comfortable" with those new skill's I have acquired, and am ready to push further beyond them. Dave
  9. Hey George Ol' Buddy, this is for you ( THE POST - NOT THE CAR ). I just took these pic's for ya with the new camera. Hope you enjoy them . This car hasn't seen the light of day, or been on any forums in two years. As the heading say's, it was a lot of work and there were a lot of parts, many scratch built, including the body, frame and interior. Over 45 kit's. Over 80 after-market set's. Real Thuya Burl wood carved dash and door panel pieces. Real leather from Sweden and Denmark for the interior. All scratch-built. 37 coat's of HOK. 10 different colors of paint to achieve the finish, including the primers and clear catalyzed top-coat. 2 identical scratch-built chassis's - Over 800 pieces each. Completely handmade body - Nearly 200 pieces. Completely scratch-built interior - nearly 150 pieces. In Feb. '04 at the SACRAMENTO AUTORAMA in CALIF., at it's debut, it won it's first Best in Show, Best Engine, and best Paint. In the next year and a half, it went on to win 45 awards IN 4 STATE'S. 15 BEST IN SHOWS in 15 contests. 4 Master's awards. 30 1ST'S in all other class's, including the 2005 GSL. I've never told this to anyone before, except BOB, but this car was was built after a challange from BOB PAETH. I grew up building and winning in Southern calif. in the 50's and 60's, with several of my pieces in the car mags like Car Craft, and others. Anyway, fast forward to 2002 at a SABA monthly meeting, after I had built some nicely received new models, winning quite a few new awards in Or., and Wash., BOB says, " Sure Dave, but bet you can't go back to calif. and win. At the time, you didn't dare say that to me , and I had just been to a REAL outdoor car show in Puallup, Wash, where for the first time in my life, I saw a "Rumpy Motored", supercharged, 1941 Hollywood Graham, sittin' low with a beautiful black stock body. I took pic's, and the rest is history. I was hooked. I went to Sacramento in feb., 2004 and brought back a three foot Best in Show and two, two foot firsts, just for BOB . Boy was that so worth it . These are the first brand new pic's, after being in it's case since 2005. I've also included a few "oldies". I let 'er out to play once in a great while, and I get to show off and brag a little . Just for you George Ol' Buddy - dave
  10. Brian's right. I got two of them by AMT several years ago on eBay , and they are excellant kit's. Prices for the kit are still reasonable, but going up, and getting a little harder to find. Good luck - dave
  11. Hey Jeff Yeah, I've done the "WEDGY THING" before like you describe. Here's a Merc of mine I built about 8 or 9 years ago, and did the "WEDGY THING" to it to the rear, and then painted with silver HOK Micro-mini Flake, then Tangerine and gold HOK candies that I mixed up using their intensifiers, and coated with a catalyzed HOK clear coat. Pretty fun build - dave
  12. Here's a few more pics
  13. Bet you thought you'd see a coupla fir tree's with a "cruddy" ol' bench stuck between um, didn' ya Well the "Retro- Vette" sorta got outta hand, but here I am back at these ol' gals, who's still waitin' for some LUV . Some of these have been on the "Back Burner" just simmerin', for a coupla years, so sorta decided I needed to get some of this done. The "Spiney" looking high-boy with cycle fender's is a scratch-built 1929 Auburn Boat-tail Cabin Speedster. The leadsled is a scratch-built 1/24 scale 1950 Lincoln, that'll take about another year of hard work to finish. The Mercury is almost done. Art Deco style, with no body lines like doors and so forth. The '55 "Shooo-Box" has been "Vette-ized" . And then there's the "Caddy". I'll add a few more later - dave
  14. Hey Willy I'm retired now, but over a span of 40 years, and several economic down turns, I've learned some important life lessons, especially when you have a family. The care for your family is your #1 concern. Swallowing your pride and doing what's necessary to keep your job, and providing for your family, while looking for another job, is what I always did. As other's said here, work hard, do a good job, so you can be proud of your work and yourself, don't take how you're treated personal, as your company is trying to "SURVIVE", just like you are, and feel the pressure just like you do. Try to put yourself in their place, and it's O.K. to talk about how you feel, like you've done here, but don't become a whinner and complainer, as that attitude just ruins your own life, and makes life miserable for those around you that you love. And remember Willy, a job is the means to an end, not the end in itself - dave ( What that means is, some people make their job their whole life because that's all they choose to have. Don't get caught in that trap, as you will miss all the rest that life has to offer - SAD CHOICE )
  15. Hey Anthony Doin some local show's this year, but no competing except for a "Club Challange" later in the summer at a Pizza parlor - UUUM . Mostly judging, MC'ing, and presenting awards. Done a couple already this year, and it sure was fun to see the look on guy's face's when they win . For me, that's more fun than competing right now. Already had my "15 MINUTES OF GLORY" several years ago, and won some nice awards, so now mostly just do display stuff when I bring something, and answer questions to help guy's get better at what they love. Very satisfying for me, and I enjoy appreciating other's work. Probably won't be at any of the "BIGGIE SHOWS" anytime soon, as being here on this forum for me is more rewarding than getting any awards, at least for the time being. Good luck at upcoming events, and I look forward to seeing more of your work in the mags. All the best - dave

  18. Thanks Jeff I think it's good for all of us to support the hobby, the MCM forum, and the MCM Team, with our $$$$. That's how we as member's keep this forum alive. It's nice to hear this kind of response from you, and other's here, as I don't want to see this forum site dissapear, as so many other things are doing right now, due to the economy. Jeff, thanks again for the encouragement - dave
