  1. I can honestly say that my inspiration for this has been quite non-existant, I thought of building it as a quickie during the summer, but well....summer ended a long time ago.

Old annual I guess, crude detailing that I felt no urge to improve, poor fit and not really exciting to build, but I have started to like 69-70 Fords as I have grown older (as a kid I thought that they were ugly).

I found a 1951 Chevy dash in my mailbox, but the plastic must have been brittle since this happened.

Then I glued it together again but it seems like I forgot most of the parts.

This is not the first hot rod I build with a sectioned 51 Chevy dash and it will probably not be the last one either. If I built a 1:1 scale hot rod I would probably use one too. I think that it is so beautiful yet simplistic looking with the waterfall radio grille and the round dials.

I found some unknown spare tire cover in the parts box so I started building some minimalistic cycle fenders for it too. Many people seems to think that real hot rods are fenderless, but I like the looks with cycle fenders up front and bobbed rear fenders.

  3. Well, that's a good question actually, and it's what have scared me away a bit from doing the other side, I know no better method than trying to measure with my eyes and do things carefully, and I guess that with my bipolar disorder I have to pick the right day, not one when I am down in the dumps and can't concentrate, or one when I think that I am Superman and tries to do everything as fast (but not good) as possible.... :D

But they say that handbuilt cars are never completely symmetrical, and that was probably even more true about some early custom builds....

Someone on another board asked for suggestions on detailing the lights. The front corner lights are also white so my approach works for both.

I would cover them with BMF and then a white wash so that the detail is still metallic. Once dry, give them a coat of canopy cement for depth.

I have done something similar to chrome lights and it turned out OK.
