  1. Hey all, here is my first attempt at a 900L It took forever with tons and tons of sanding but it didnt come out to bad for the first try! I used the revell 900A and tried to update it as much as possible the sleeper came from the T-600 kit. i must of sanded 20 pounds of filler off the sleeper and cab! Sorry for the pictures im working on my picture quality. Hope you all enjoy!
  2. I bet if we all had a nickle for everytime a model bomb went off we'd be millionaires right?? I know thats happened to me a time or two. I was working on the dodge L-700 kit and the family cat didnt feel the truck was worthy so she knocked the poor thing off the bench and it exploded. Off to the junkyard for now poor truck! I was quite angry at the cat!! Sorry for your misfortune, I bet after the cleaning it'll be a great looking truck! Happy modeling!
  3. Tim, Beautiful truck and conversion!! Will the hoods be available to the general public? Im very interested in purchasing one, i have a "spare" 377 sitting around. Thanks
  4. Awesome start! I just got completed with a T-600 Wrecker(Ill be posting pictures soon) Are you planning on using the "Factory" sleeper or going with a flat-top? I used a revell 63'' flat-top on the wrecker came out pretty nice! I love the fifth wheel awesome detail! Id love to see some more photos!! Jim, Not all fifth wheels have an air slide cylinder, Some wheels are stationary and cannot slide. Look at the small coke delivery tractors. Most of our kits contain sliding wheels with the exception of a few, the mack's and im pretty sure the older IHC 4300,4270 kits just off the top of my head.
  5. Hey, As stated above the castrol super clean works very well, It may take a few days. Be careful, use gloves when handling the solution, it will eat your skin! As far as the model goes be sure its completely submerged in the liquid and dont let the solution dry on the plastic. When the paints been removed wash the pieces very well with a mild soap and water and rinse very well. I didnt rinse a sleeper good enough and the paint bubbled and cracked like no other. I think duplicolor has a "Sun yellow" that was very vibrant and hurts your eyes. I painted a pete with that color with a white primer.. looked pretty good. For primer i usually use the cheap flat white that wal-mart has for 96 cents. (Yes, Im cheap) I dont know if your LHS or wal-mart carries House of color rattle cans but they have a yellow thats really bright! The only problem i have with house of color is the paints very thin and takes more coats to get proper color but when you get the proper color.. Wow! Good luck!
  6. Hey, Lately ive seen these type of trucks running for about 120,000-160,000 for a pretty nice new 379 or 387. I have seen new trucks that have all sorts of modifications such as full fenders, larger sleeper, custom paint etc. for upwards of 250,000. I would imagine these prices are dependant on the options you want. If you go to www.truckpaper.com thats a great site for reference photos. They have all different makes/models and combinations so its an awesome site to get some ideas. As far as a 16 cyl. engine, maybe some off road versions had those?? I know the gigantic dump trucks have engines like that. If i remember correctly 12v71's and 92's were offered in some On highway trucks. If you want look for a KW W-900 with a 12V92, some guy custom fit that beast into his rig. sight of beauty!!
  7. If i remember correctly "Dayton" and multiple other companies make quite a few styles of the spoke rim, old guys around the shop refered to them as "Daytons". Those 5-6 spoked wheels are mounted to the hub via bolts(the nuts between the spokes) and the outer tire/rim assy are held in position by "wedges" they are pretty much self descriptive, one wedge per spoke that is held in place by a nut. This doesnt matter but they make great projectiles when you try to improperly remove them. Its been about 4 years since ive played with any heavy truck wheels so if im not describing this correctly please let me know!
  8. Impressive work! How did you aquire the full fenders and turbo wing? The only turbo wing ive seen is on DMTW. I like the custom exhaust!! Great job!
  9. I used to work for an International Dealership in Cincinnati ohio and the current IH color is blue, reman/ford IH engines are black. I havent seen any IHC diesels red in our trucks. The only red engines ive seen in IHC trucks are the older gasoline engines. Thanks
  10. I agree the daycab looks awesome and the color choice fits perfectly.. What cars do you have planned for the rack?
  11. Thank you all for your kind remarks! I look forward to sharing some more builds and WIP's. My time is quite limited with my career so it takes a little longer than some people. The covered wagon trailer is a scratchbuild I used a 24x4x3/16 piece of basswood. used about the same thing on the sides just cut it in half. used small 1/8 inch rectangle dowls for the side supports and a piece of cloth for the top. the circular top is made from some safety wire. Thanks again for all the comments i will get some photos as soon as i can! Thanks
  12. Hey all, I'm quite new to this forum and Im very impressed with all of your builds! Heres a few of my builds, I hope they are of the quality of this forum. Also, I have only been building trucks for about 4 years so I have a lot to learn. If you see something i can do better please let me know! Anything helps right? Excuse the fuzzy pictures, my camera skills are not very good. Thank you for looking! Jason
  13. Hey, I dont think white spirits would give the same results that an airbrush thinner would. I also have not tried it to really tell you, just a guess. Water is a definate no, the water will not mix with the paint. I use the HOK paints and use the HOK airbrush thinner. i find it easiest to mix my paint in a clear measuring cup. i usually thin the paint to roughly a 50/50 ratio you can deviate from that a small amount to maybe 45 thinner 55 paint or visa versa, also depends on the viscosity of your paint. ive also found the magic number for air pressure in my gun is around 35-40PSI. Thats about all i can think of for now! Jason
